In an unforgettable The Voice finale moment, Sofronio Vasquez claimed victory under the mentorship of Michael Bublé. However, the celebrations took a playful twist backstage when Vasquez caught his coach texting during the post-win chaos — and he couldn’t resist teasing him about it.

Vasquez was named the season 26 winner of ‘The Voice’ on Dec. 10

Sofronio Vasquez and Michael Bublé make a great team.

After the Team Bublé contestant was declared the winner for season 26 of The Voice, the duo opened up about the emotional moment with PEOPLE — and Vasquez teased his coach for texting after the victory.

“It was really emotional because I am not just winning this on my own. I feel like I am honoring the best gift ever, which is my coach,” Vasquez tells PEOPLE exclusively.

For the Canadian crooner, the win marked many important firsts for the show. (Vasquez is the first Filipino and Asian winner in the singing competition show’s history).

“It’s about representation. Because at the end of the day we represent our countries, our family, our faith, our friends,” Bublé, 49, says. “We represent an incredible, iconic television show that’s now had 26 seasons [and] has a ton of integrity and so much care.”

He continues, “We knew that this wasn’t about winning a cup. This was about the start of career.”

The Canadian crooner believes there are real “stars” on this season of The Voice, and he can’t wait to see where they go.

“I don’t know if every season is like this, but this is a star,” he says of Vasquez. “Shye is a star. [It] wasn’t in the plan for her to win, but she’s a winner, and I can’t wait for you to hear them both.”

When asked if he feels any pressure going into next season with fellow coaches John Legend, Adam Levine and Kelsea Ballerini — the “Home” singer assures he’s ready to go.

“I’ve already been texting Adam tonight,” he says enthusiastically.

Then, Vasquez called out his coach out for doing it: “I caught you texting… I was like, ‘Why are you texting?’” he teases.

“I was texting Levine!” he responds. “By the way, this season has been amazing with Snoop [Dogg], Reba [McEntire] and Gwen [Stefani]. They’re such beautiful people. But [season] 27 man, Levine and John Legend… John Legend EGOT winner? God, I’m just a few awards behind him. And Kelsea Ballerini? Oh my God, I’ve got bragging rights.”

On Tuesday night, Vasquez beat out his fellow Bublé contestant Shye, Team Reba’s Danny Joseph, Team Snoop’s Jeremy Beloate and Team Gwen’s Sydney Sterlace.

After his name was called, Vasquez — a four-chair turn during his blind audition — fell to his knees and burst into tears.

When asked where he plans to keep his trophy, Vasquez says “probably in my bed.”

“I just want to sleep with it next to me in my bed right now,” he says. “I can’t believe it’s happening.”
