MICHAEL BUBLÉ OPENS UP ABOUT LIFE-CHANGING LESSONS AFTER SON’S CANCER DIAGNOSIS AND SWEET MEMORIES WITH HIS GRANDMA

Michael Bublé reveals his outlook on life has changed since son’s cancer diagnosis and details sweet way he used to communicate with his grandma after she got Alzheimer’s

Michael Bublé revealed his outlook on life has changed on Tuesday after his son was diagnosed with a rare type of liver cancer in 2016.

The singer, 47, said he has learnt to be ‘present’ and live in the moment more after his nine-year-old son Noah was diagnosed at the age of three with hepatoblastoma.

Noah had to undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy following his diagnosis and is now in remission since 2017.

At the time, Michael cancelled his tour to priorities his family and said he ‘was as strong as he could possible be under the circumstances’.

Speaking with The Big Issue, he said: ‘I had the right priorities but if I could give advice to my younger self at any point, through all of the good or bad times in my career and my home life, I’d say, be more present.

'I spent so much time worrying': Michael Bublé revealed his outlook on life has changed on Tuesday after his son was diagnosed with a rare type of liver cancer in 2016

‘I spent so much time worrying about the future, or even the past. Now I tell my kids all the time, we cannot change what we’ve done. And we have no control about what is going to happen in the future. So all we can do is be in the moment and be as present as possible. If we can do that we will live a happy life.’

The four-time Grammy Award winner went on to gush over his four children, Noah, Elias, seven, Vida, four, and Cielo, eight months, who he said he ‘falls in love with’ everyday.

He added: ‘With my kids, I feel like I’ve met different children in each one as they’ve grown. I started with a wonderful fat little baby and I fell in love with every little fold over their ankles. And then I fell in love again when they turned one. Then I fell in love with the little three-year-old pre-schooler. And this morning I kissed my nine-year-old son and I fell in love with him again.’

Family is clearly important to the I Haven’t Met You Yet singer, who reflected on the sweet time he spent with his grandma when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Michael gushed over his ‘wonderful’ grandparents and revealed he would sing with his grandma after she was diagnosed with the brain disorder which slowly destroys memory and thinking skills.

The singer said that despite her ‘forgetting so many things, she never forgot the lyrics of songs’ and the pair would dance around the kitchen together.

Michael, who shares his four children with wife Luisana Lopilato, recently admitted that he hasn’t let fame and fortune go to his head.

The hitmaker, who has an estimated net worth of $80M (£65M), admitted his kids all go to the same state school that he once did.

He shared that he does the school run with the same pals he met in childhood, who also haven’t moved from the area.

And after enjoying a childhood attending state school Seaforth Elementary, Michael told The Guardian that his own little ones now do the same.

The Higher singer likes to stay true to his humble beginnings, and shares that he ‘remembers everything’ about attending the district school.

Noting that it still has some of the same teachers, he told The Guardian’s G2: ‘There’s this smell of all the hallways, I still remember everything.

‘Same teachers, the kids that I went to school with are the same people I walk my kids to school with now. The first time was probably a strange moment for them, and for me, too.’

Adding that he doesn’t like to come across as conceited, Michael continued that he spends time at the pub with other parents.

He said: ‘You don’t want to act like you think you’re something special, you don’t want to be too aloof. No we’re drinking at the pub. We’re going golfing. It’s funny how quickly that happens. They’re not impressed.

‘They might say: “Hey, you got the grammy – good for you.” But they’re not impressed, it’s a really cool life’.
