Lainey Wilson sang her brand-new single, “4x4xU,” and her Top 20 and climbing smash, “Hang Tight Honey,” at the 48th annual Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks celebration in New York City, 100 floors above the ground.

During the legendary NBC broadcast on July 4th, Wilson performed twice from the Edge at Hudson Yards, the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere.

With the stunning New York City skyline as her backdrop, the reigning ACM and CMA Entertainer of the Year gave two energetic performances in spite of the heavy gusts. As the sun started to set, illuminating the skyline in breathtaking pink, orange, and purple hues, fans cheered her on from the sky deck.

Wilson’s performance came amid a busy week for the superstar as she debuted not one but two music videos and a brand new song. The music video for “Hang Tight Honey” made its debut on Wednesday and on Thursday, she released “4x4xU,” along with the accompanying video.

Both songs will be featured on her next album, Whirlwind, which will be released on August 23.

Country music artist Mickey Guyton co-hosted Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks with Zuri Hall of Access Hollywood.

Brandy Clark, Luis Fonsi, Shaboozey, Tanner Adell, The War and Treaty, and others performed throughout the two-hour celebration.

“Every year, this telecast never fails to amaze and inspire, illuminating the New York skyline with an unparalleled fireworks display,” said Jen Neal, NBCU Entertainment’s Executive Vice President of Live Events and Specials. “This kind of live programming event unites us as a country and showcases the unique qualities of our Peacock and NBC brands.”

Not even extreme weather can keep Lainey Wilson from putting on a stellar show for her fans!

The “Heart Like a Truck” singer performed live from the Hudson River in New York during the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks special. However, conditions were less than ideal for her outdoor performance.

Nonetheless Lainey persevered, receiving rave reviews from the packed crowd and countless at-home viewers. “Fighting for my life in a real life whirlwind 🤣,” Lainey shared of the experience on TikTok.

Lainey shared a video to TikTok of the performance, with her hair swirling in the wind. In the clip, Lainey doesn’t miss a beat as she belts out her new hit “Hang Tight Honey” in a red, fireworks-inspired ensemble.

“Took me a solid 30 mins to detangle my hair after performing for Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks special 😂,” she captioned the post.

Fans ran to the comments, praising Lainey for her show-stopping performance. They wrote:

  • “You looked awesome and sang beautifully!!”
  • “But you look 🔥🔥🔥 doing it ma’am!”
  • “OMG you were amazing but I literally worried about your safety and your hair the entire time!”
  • “Now that’s a performer!!”
  • “Just a bit breezy great job you go girl ❤️”

Lainey performed alongside fellow country artists Tanner Adell and The War and Treaty and Luis Fonsi. Mickey Guyton and Zuri Hall of Access Hollywood hosted the annual Independence Day celebration this year.

As a girl who grew up on a farm in small town Louisiana, we aren’t surprised that Lainey won’t let a little or a lot wind stop her from giving fans her all. Though it did stop her from wearing her matching red cowboy hat on stage. Hats off to Lainey for another incredible show!

Naturally, the 48th annual Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks celebration included a stunning fireworks display in addition to the musical performances. With more than 60,000 shells, the Macy’s Fireworks showcased over 30 colors and introduced never-before-seen effects. Fired from five barges on the Hudson River, the pyrotechnics reached heights of 1,000 feet before falling down to the water’s edge.

At the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks, a specially created effect was unveiled in the 2024 edition. This new element featured a silver cascading explosion that filled the sky with brilliance and produced a central kaleidoscope with alternating red and blue colors.

Additional effects, such as cross rings, strobing comets, waterfalls, Saturn circles, crackling pistils, and special ghost pyro that alternated between multiple hues, captivated viewers nationwide. The event culminated in the signature, fan-favorite moment known as the Macy’s Golden Mile.
