Keith Urban Breaks Down in Tears as Kelly Clarkson Delivers a Heart-Wrenching Performance of “Piece by Piece” in an Emotional American Idol Farewell

Emotions were running high on the live show of American Idol Season 15’s farewell, as Kelly Clarkson couldn’t hold back tears during her unforgettable performance.

The first ever winner of the show, Kelly, had the honor of singing one of her most beautiful and emotional songs, “Piece by Piece.” The singer wrote heartfelt lyrics to her father, who abandoned hí family when she was just six left a lasting impact. Keith Urban couldn’t hide his emotions, tears streaming down his cheeks, as she poured her heart into the song.

Though she missed a few of the lines, she shed tears on stage, eliciting a heartfelt response from both the Idol judges and the audience as she performed on the show where it all began. Her incredible performance had an undeniable impact as tears dropped on the faces of everyone in the room. You can catch the emotional performance in the video below.

Emotional lines such as “I will never leave her like you left me and she will never have to wonder her worth,” brought an emotional depth to the song about Kelly’s absent father. It’s no wonder that Kelly struggled to get through the performance, as the lyrics poignantly echoed the impact of her father’s absence.

Every lyric touched the hearts of everyone; the tears streaming down Kelly and Keith’s faces were the most evident proof. As soon as the performance concluded, everyone in the studio stood up and applauded in admiration of her.

The song gained even more significance and emotion as the singer revealed she was preganing, adding an extra layer to the heartfelt performance. Clarkson shared, “I’m pregnant and it’s nostalgic. And I can’t believe it’s the last season. I’m really sorry – I’m actually quite proud that I made it that far.”

The audience cheered her on, clearly feeling that the apology wasn’t necessary. When Clarkson’s emotional performance was released, numerous people left positive comments, feeling grateful to Kelly for giving it all she had and not holding back.
