CLIVE DAVIS DIDN’T SING “NEON MOON.” BUT WITHOUT THE DOOR HE OPENED, COUNTRY MUSIC MAY NEVER HAVE HEARD IT THE SAME WAY. When Clive Davis helped build Arista Nashville, he was not trying to wear a cowboy hat or pretend he belonged in every honky-tonk room. He did something quieter. He trusted Nashville enough to give it a serious stage. Through that door came two men who had both spent years chasing music alone — Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn. Separately, they were talented. Together, under the Arista Nashville banner, they became something country music had never quite seen before. “Brand New Man” arrived in 1991 and changed everything. Then came “My Next Broken Heart,” “Neon Moon,” and “Boot Scootin’ Boogie.” Four songs. Four doors kicked open. A duo became a dynasty. Clive Davis may be remembered for pop legends, rock icons, and superstar voices. But in country music, part of his legacy is simple: He helped create the house where Brooks & Dunn became Brooks & Dunn.

8 OLIVIER AWARDS. 1 OSCAR. 10 BAFTAS. AND NOW, AN ENTIRE THEATRE BEARS HER NAME. London’s Shaftesbury Theatre — the largest independent theatre in the West End, standing since 1911 — just announced it will be renamed the Judi Dench Theatre from February 2027. Dame Judi wasn’t just a performer who graced this stage. She was a founding member of the Theatre of Comedy, the collective that helped keep this very building alive through the 1980s and early ’90s. Her beloved sitcom As Time Goes By ran for nine series, produced by the Taffner family — who also own the theatre. But the part that quietly hits different? The theatre’s CEO said: “We don’t celebrate brilliant women enough in our West End theatre names.” Among dozens of West End venues, almost none carry a woman’s name. Dame Judi called it “truly overwhelming.” The venue is also restoring its original auditorium dome as part of the renaming renovation. After 115 years of curtain calls, this stage finally has her name above the door.

“HI, I’M BRUCE.” — THAT’S HOW SPRINGSTEEN INTRODUCED HIMSELF TO THOUSANDS AT THE $850 MILLION OBAMA PRESIDENTIAL CENTER OPENING. Yesterday, at the grand opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, Bruce Springsteen walked onto the stage right after Obama finished his speech. Thousands of people were watching — three former presidents right in the crowd — and Springsteen just smiled and said: “Hi, I’m Bruce.” He quoted Obama’s own words from the 2015 Selma speech. But what came next is what really got to people. “President Obama and Michelle, you have exemplified that ideal with lives that have served us all with heart and commitment and love and compassion. This is ‘Land of Hope and Dreams.’ This is for you.” That song is 27 years old. It also named his recent E Street Band tour. But standing on that stage, looking at a friend he’s known for 18 years, it sounded completely different — like every word was personal. When Stevie Wonder closed the ceremony with “Higher Ground,” Springsteen walked back out and joined all the performers, singing along like he was just happy to be there

THEY’VE BEEN FRIENDS FOR 18 YEARS — SHE ONCE CALLED HIM “ONE OF MY FAVORITE PEOPLE ON EARTH.” Bruce Springsteen walked up to Michelle Obama at the opening of the Barack Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, and the way his whole face changed said everything. She’d called him “one of my favorite people” on her podcast last year. He’d played on the campaign trail for her husband back in 2008 — 18 years ago. And here they were, in front of 6,300 guests and four former presidents, and for a second it looked like nobody else was in the room. But what got people wasn’t the A-list guest list or the performances. It was something much smaller. Springsteen performed that afternoon alongside Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, and John Legend. Ten years of building led to this day. But when he saw Michelle, he wasn’t The Boss. He was just a friend, happy to be there, holding on a little longer than he needed to. The Obama Center took a decade to build. That kind of friendship doesn’t take any time at all.
