COMEDY CHAOS ERUPTS ON The Carol Burnett Show — and Harvey Korman had no idea he was walking straight into the trap. In a moment that still feels unbelievable decades later, Korman accidentally read Tim Conway’s brutally savage fake Emmy speech on live television, detonating the studio into uncontrollable laughter. The joke exposed a ridiculous “voting pact,” shattered every ounce of composure on set, and left the audience gasping as the cast collapsed around them. Fans still call it one of the most fearless, unhinged moments in the show’s legendary run — the instant comedy tore up the rulebook and laughed in its ashes.

Harvey Korman read Tim Conway’s Emmy speech and brought down the house. The clip shows that Tim was not only a gifted performer, capable of making an entire studio audience laugh, but also had a way with the written word. Watch the short but hilarious clip to hear Tim’s speech read by Harvey and to see the audience’s reaction to it.

The Carol Burnett Show is one of television’s most beloved and iconic shows. Even decades after the show went off the air, its zany, off-the-wall characters and skits still have people laughing. The show’s cast included legendary comedic actors like Carol Burnett, Vicki Lawrence, Tim Conway and Harvey Korman.

While it was titled The Carol Burnett Show, and she was the main character, Tim Conway and Harvey Korman often stole the show, especially when they were in skits together. Anytime those two were together, you could expect to laugh. As a clip posted on YouTube shows, those two don’t even have to be on stage together to steal the show.

My Emmy Moment: Tim Conway and Harvey Korman | Television Academy

In the video, Tim is announced as the 1973 Most Outstanding Performer Emmy winner for his work on The Carol Burnett Show. However, Tim could not make it to the ceremony, so Harvey, after bounding up on stage, accepted the award on Tim’s behalf. While on stage, Harvey reads a speech written by Tim, which he confesses he had not read until he opened it on stage.

“Dear Harvey, if you are holding an Emmy with your name on it, congratulations,” the note, written by Tim, reads. “If you are holding an Emmy with my name on it, you were robbed, Tim. P.S. You know when we agreed that if you would vote for me, I would vote for you? Well, I lied.”

The studio audience erupts in laughter as Harvey finishes Tim’s note.

HE DIDN’T WALK TO THE STAGE — HE WALKED INTO THE CROWD. On April 1, 2012, at the 47th Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas, Toby Keith made a choice no one expected. Instead of heading for the spotlight, he stepped off it. Mid-performance, Toby moved straight into the audience. No barrier. No distance. Just a country singer shoulder-to-shoulder with fans who had grown up on his songs. Cameras scrambled. The room shifted. What was supposed to be a polished awards-show moment turned into something raw and unscripted. People reached out. Some sang every word back to him. Others just stood there, stunned, realizing they were part of the performance now. It didn’t feel like a stunt. It felt like instinct. That night reminded everyone why Toby Keith never fit neatly into the industry’s mold. He wasn’t there to impress the room — he was there to be in it. To blur the line between stage and seats. Star and crowd. For a few minutes in Las Vegas, country music wasn’t being performed at people. It was being shared — right there in the aisle.
