Chris Stapleton and Miranda Lambert turned the CMA Awards into a time machine, bringing the warm, timeless magic of Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers straight to the stage with their nostalgic performance of “A Song To Sing.” The moment they stepped into the spotlight together, you could feel something special was about to happen—and when they sang their first-ever recorded duet, it hit even harder than anyone expected.

Chris Stapleton and Miranda Lambert shared the CMA Awards stage to perform their first-ever recorded duet.

In addition to honoring the best artists, songs, albums, songwriters, and other industry greats during Wednesday night’s 59th Annual CMA Awards, some of country music’s hottest acts performed. Among those who performed was Chris Stapleton and Miranda Lambert.

The pair teamed up to treat the crowd to a live performance of “A Song To Sing,” their first-ever recorded duet. Chris and Miranda have previously collaborated, but had never been to the studio together to record a single. The tune was released earlier this year and earned two Grammy nods: Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Country Song.

Inspired by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers’ “Islands In The Stream,” “A Song To Sing” has a nostalgic feel, something Chris and Miranda channeled for their ’70s-inspired CMA Awards show performance.

Both artists wore era appropriate suits, accentuated by a disco-themed stage scattered with disco balls.

The performance was a milestone moment for both artists.

2025 marks two decades since Miranda Lambert made her CMA Awards debut with a performance of her breakout hit, “Kerosene.” She went on to be named CMA Female Vocalist of the Year seven times in the years since, and in 2005 joined the ranks of women who have been named Entertainer of the Year.

This year is also the 10th anniversary of Chris Stapleton’s history-making night at the CMA Awards. In 2015, Stapleton earned a rare Triple Crown accomplishment when he was named New Artist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and won Album of the Year.

2025 also marks a decade since Stapleton was joined by Justin Timberlake to sing “Drink You Away” and “Tennessee Whiskey,” a performance that is considered one of the best in CMA Awards show history.

Chris Stapleton has won an additional dozen trophies from the CMA since that night. He was also up for three more during Wednesday’s 59th annual show, including two of the night’s biggest honors – Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year.
