A Major Twist on The Voice Gives One Lucky Contestant a Unique Opportunity Amid Rising Talent

The Voice  Season 28 has begun filming at Universal Studios, so NBC revealed the exciting panel of coaches for Season 28 with some all-star returning coaches: Michael BubléSnoop DoggNiall Horan and Reba McEntire.

The Voice Season 28 will air on its usual Monday and Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT beginning on Sept. 22. Streaming next day on Peacock.

This will be Reba’s fourth season as a coach, having won her second season (Season 25) with 31-year-old Asher HaVon from Selma, AL. Previously, she served as a Battle Advisor in Season 1 and a Mega Mentor on Season 23.

What is the new twist for The Voice Season 28?

In the above trailer for Season 28 of The Voice, it’s revealed that Carson Daly is getting a say in who goes home and who makes a team with a new feature called “Carson Callback.”

“Sometimes I see great singers fall through the cracks,” Carson says, standing next to a  glass case containing a card that reads “Carson Callback.” “And I’ve never been able to do anything about it — until now.”

Carson used the Carson Callback on night one of the new season for 25-year-old Ryan Mitchell from Los Angeles, who got no coaches to turn for him, but they encouraged him to pick a different song and come back next season. Instead, Carson used the new twist, which he only gets to use once a season, which gave Ryan 24 hours to pick a new song and come back and audition the next night, which he will do.

What is the “Mic-Drop”?

This season, the Knockouts feature the first-ever “Mic Drop” button, given to each coach to use on an artist from their respective teams whose performance blows them away.  Then, viewers at home will have the opportunity to vote for the “Mic Drop” winner among the four. The artist with the most votes is awarded a performance at “The Rose Parade Presented by Honda,” live on Jan. 1, 2026.

Who will be the Mega Mentor for The Voice Season 28?

Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and multi-Grammy Award-winning Joe Walsh and Grammy Award-winning multi-hyphenate Zac Brown will serve in the Mega Mentor capacity this season.
