Taylor Sheridan, renowned for hit shows like Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, and Landman, is stepping into new territory with The Road—a groundbreaking reality singing competition that eschews the glossy, manufactured feel of traditional music contests for raw, authentic country music experiences. Executive produced by Sheridan alongside country stars Blake Shelton and Keith Urban, the series has fans buzzing ahead of its October 19 premiere on CBS.
Blake Shelton Praises Taylor Sheridan’s Vision
At the CBS Fall 2025 Press Day, Blake Shelton was effusive in his praise for Sheridan’s involvement. “Taylor Sheridan makes a difference in everything we’re doing,” Shelton said. “He’s such an incredible visionary, and he just has a way of looking at something and seeing the potential of it in a way that I don’t think 98% of us have.”
Shelton highlighted Sheridan’s boldness in spotlighting stories and cultures often overlooked by Hollywood. “Taylor isn’t afraid to create content about things most of Hollywood would shy away from or ignore,” he said. “He’s not afraid to make a series about ranchers or the oil people in Texas—stuff happening in the flyover states that Hollywood has ignored for years.”
And for a lighthearted touch, Shelton joked about Sheridan’s physical presence: “He’s also incredibly muscle-y, which is sexy.”
A Refreshing Take on Music Competitions
Unlike typical singing shows that stage contestants on polished platforms with choreographed audiences, The Road throws twelve aspiring country artists into the real-life grind of touring. These contestants will join Keith Urban as his opening acts in venues across the country, where they’ll have to win over fans who came specifically to see Urban. Only those who succeed in capturing the crowd’s hearts will move on.
Shelton, drawing on his years as a mentor on The Voice, explained his motivation to spearhead this fresh concept. “As much fun as I had being a coach on The Voice, you can’t do that job for that long without ideas about how it could be different,” he said. Shelton envisioned a show where contestants could perform original songs and step away from the highly produced studio environment.
“The Road” embraces the grittier, less polished side of touring life—the cramped buses, the unpredictable crowds, and the raw emotional stakes of the journey. It promises viewers an unfiltered look at the reality behind becoming a country star.
Fans Are Ready for The Road
A short teaser clip featuring Shelton’s words, “No polished stages, just real country bars,” exploded overnight, capturing the spirit of the show and sending fans into a frenzy on social media. Country music lovers and TV audiences alike are eager to see how this authentic approach will reshape the singing competition landscape.
Mark your calendars for October 19 at 9 p.m. EST on CBS to catch the premiere of The Road—a tour de force that promises to blend the heart of country music with the grit of real life on the road.
