Blake Shelton’s Stepson Asks Why He Doesn’t Retire: “Because I Still Love the Stage”

Blake Shelton may have traded his spinning red chair on The Voice for more family time, but retirement isn’t on his radar just yet. The country superstar, who wrapped up a record-setting 23 seasons as a coach on the hit show in 2023, says his passion for performing is stronger than ever—a fact brought into sharp focus by a recent conversation with his stepson, Kingston.

“My stepson Kingston asked me the other night, ‘Why don’t you just retire already?’” Shelton recounted with a laugh. “And I told him, ‘Because I still love the stage. That’s where I belong.’”

Balancing Family and Music

Since marrying pop icon Gwen Stefani in 2021, Shelton admits his life has changed in meaningful ways. “Family’s first now, no doubt,” he shared. Time at home in Oklahoma with Stefani and her three sons has become a top priority, prompting his decision to leave television behind. But for Shelton, music remains his “heartbeat”—the driving force that keeps him returning to the spotlight.

Not Ready to Hang Up the Boots

Despite more than two decades of chart-topping hits and sold-out tours, Shelton says the thrill of live performance still excites him. “Every night on stage is different. There’s a kind of energy and connection you just can’t find anywhere else,” he explained. Songwriting, recording, and concerts are, for Shelton, as vital now as they were at the start of his career.

Stepping away from The Voice allowed Shelton to be present for more family milestones, but he makes it clear that his artistic journey is far from over. “It’s about balance,” he says. “You step back from some things so you can pour even more into what matters most.”

The Stage Still Calls

Shelton’s honest answer to Kingston echoes a sentiment shared by many veteran artists: even as life evolves, the call of the stage is hard to silence. For fans, his continued commitment to music means the chance to experience that unmistakable Shelton energy—live and unfiltered—for years to come.

Blake Shelton may be enjoying a quieter life off-camera, but when it comes to music, he’s not ready to say goodbye. As he puts it, “That’s where I belong.”
