Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton Bring Empowering Twist to Classic Tale with New Series ‘Dorothy’

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are set to captivate audiences once again, this time through a fresh, modern adaptation of a beloved classic. The couple is teaming up for Dorothy, a contemporary, music-infused young adult series inspired by L. Frank Baum’s iconic The Wizard of Oz.

The series, produced by 13 Going on 30 producer Gina Matthews, promises a heartfelt story that speaks directly to young viewers navigating the challenges of today. “Dorothy is a symbol of strength who shows us that with grit and kindness, you can achieve great things and lift others up,” Shelton said, highlighting the story’s inspirational core. Stefani echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the series will blend music and emotion to remind viewers “you’re not alone on your journey.”

Matthews, who has been a longtime fan of The Wizard of Oz books, expressed her excitement for the project in a statement to Deadline: “The story reminds us of the qualities we need to get through hard times, and Dorothy is a symbol of strength who shows us that with a little kindness — and a lot of grit — we can not only achieve great things but also lift up those around us. I’m excited to bring that message to the world, now more than ever.”

The series will feature a modern reimagining of the Yellow Brick Road, using it as a metaphor for the challenges young people face today. Alongside Stefani, the production team includes Lucky Horseshoe’s Blake and Lee Metzger, as well as Little Engine’s Grant Scharbo and Patrick Moran, who are all serving as executive producers.

Blake Shelton shared his enthusiasm for the creative potential of the project: “We’re really excited about all the possibilities this show brings, and I’m so grateful that Gina shared the idea with me and Lee. I knew right away it was something Gwen would connect with. Her creativity and perspective are such a natural fit for this project.”

For Stefani, the project represents both a creative and emotional journey. “It’s a creative and modern take on a classic, and being part of something that blends music, emotion, and the character of Dorothy is inspiring to me,” she said.

Fellow executive producers Patrick Moran and Grant Scharbo also expressed excitement for the collaboration. Patrick remarked, “I’m really excited to work with this creative team. I’m such a fan of everyone involved and couldn’t ask for a more exciting partnership as we reinvent this cherished IP.” Grant added, “We’re thrilled to embark on this journey with Amazon and believe Dorothy will enchant a whole new generation of viewers.”

With its empowering message, musical heart, and contemporary lens, Dorothy promises to be more than just a retelling—it’s a celebration of resilience, creativity, and the enduring magic of storytelling.
