Blake Shelton has joined the outpouring of grief across the music industry following the devastating news that Brandon Blackstock — the son of Reba McEntire and ex-husband of Kelly Clarkson — has passed away after a private, three-year battle with cancer.

But while many shared condolences with Reba and Kelly, it was Blake’s deeply personal message to Remy and River, the two young children Brandon leaves behind, that truly moved the world to tears.

 A Family Woven in Music, Now Woven in Loss

Brandon Blackstock, 48, a longtime music manager, was married to pop star Kelly Clarkson from 2013 to 2021. Together, they shared two children — River Rose, 11, and Remington “Remy” Alexander, 9 — and remained tied by family, even after their split.

Brandon was also the stepson of Reba McEntire, who helped raise him since childhood and famously referred to him as “mine in every way that matters.”

“To River and Remy — your daddy loved you more than anything on this earth. He was so proud of you, every time he talked about you his eyes lit up. And I hope you know… that kind of love doesn’t end. It stays. In every sunrise, every song, every time you laugh. He’ll be there.”

Fans and fellow musicians flooded the post with broken-heart emojis and crying-face reactions, many calling it “one of the most beautiful tributes ever written.”

Blake’s connection to the Blackstock family runs deep. Brandon managed Shelton for more than a decade, helping shape the singer’s career from country star to household name and The Voice judge. And during his marriage to Kelly, Brandon was often spotted backstage with Blake during tours and live shows.

Despite Kelly and Brandon’s very public 2020–2021 divorce, Blake maintained a respectful silence, but continued to support both Kelly and Reba through it all.
