Country music fans have something to look forward to this fall as Blake Shelton, one of the genre’s biggest stars, teams up with Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan to launch a fresh competition series, The Road. The show, which blends the grit of real-life touring with the excitement of a music contest, has officially set its premiere date for Sunday, October 19.
Executive produced by Shelton, Sheridan, Lee Metzger, and David Glasser, The Road promises an authentic, behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to succeed on the country music circuit. Keith Urban headlines the series as the main act, while 12 emerging musicians get their chance in the spotlight as his opening performers. The contestants will be guided by “tour manager” Gretchen Wilson, who will provide advice and support throughout the competition.
Adding to the show’s star power, other notable country artists will make guest appearances, though CBS has not yet revealed who these artists will be. The grand prize remains a mystery as well, leaving fans curious about what awaits the winner.
The lineup of contestants showcases a diverse range of talent from across the country, including:
- Adam Sanders, 36, Lake City, Florida
- Billie Jo Jones, 34, Emory, Texas
- Blaine Bailey, 23, Tahlequah, Oklahoma
- Briana Adams, 30, Winchester, Texas
- Britnee Kellogg, 40, Anthem, Arizona
- Cassidy Daniels, 25, Marion, North Carolina
- Channing Wilson, 49, Lafayette, Georgia
- Cody Hibbard, 32, Adair, Oklahoma
- Forrest McCurren, 35, Jefferson City, Missouri
- Jenny Tolman, 29, Nashville, Tennessee
- Jon Wood, 28, Wake Forest, North Carolina
- Olivia Harms, 29, Canby, Oregon
Keith Urban, reflecting on his own rise in the music industry, expressed enthusiasm for the show’s concept. “I spent a lot of my underage life playing in some seedy pubs, sometimes just for the bartender. So I love the idea of throwing artists into a real-world environment to find out if they are artists,” he said. Urban emphasized that touring is where true musicianship is honed, calling it “the only road to take if you want to be a performer.”
Blake Shelton, no stranger to music competitions himself, also weighed in on the show’s mission. “I know a thing or two about singing competitions and what it’s like to chase a music dream and live life on tour,” he said. “I’m looking forward to discovering new talent and giving them this platform.”
The Road will air Sundays from 9 to 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS, with live and on-demand streaming available on Paramount+. As the premiere date approaches, country music fans can gear up for an honest, hard-hitting look at the realities of life on the road—and the hopeful artists willing to chase their dreams down it.
