“I’M NOT GOING TO MAKE IT. I LOVE Y’ALL”: Blake Shelton’s Tearful Promise to Family of Texas Father Who Died Saving His Own
July 7, 2025

The words were simple. Final. And they broke the heart of a nation:
“I’m sorry. I’m not going to make it. I love y’all.”
Those were the last words Julian Ryan, 27, spoke to his fiancée, their two children, and his mother — moments after he’d just saved them all from the rising floodwaters that destroyed their home in Ingram, Texas.
On July 4, as most families gathered to celebrate freedom, Julian gave his life to protect the people he loved the most.
And now, Blake Shelton, country music superstar and father himself, is making sure Julian’s name — and his sacrifice — will never be forgotten.

“This Man Was a Real Hero”
When Blake Shelton read the story of Julian’s final moments, the country singer reportedly sat in silence, then whispered to his team:
“That man was a real hero. A husband. A dad. And the world should know his name.”
Julian’s death came after sudden flash flooding from the Guadalupe River, which rose over 30 feet above normal after a night of torrential rain. The water rushed into his home so fast it reached knee level in 20 minutes.
In a desperate bid to save his family, Julian punched out a window to help them escape — but the glass tore through his arm, severing an artery and leaving him critically wounded.
Despite losing massive amounts of blood, he refused to leave until everyone — his fiancée Christinia Wilson, their children, and his mother — were safe on the roof.
By the time help arrived, it was too late.
“At six o’clock, my husband was gone,” Christinia told KHOU, tears running down her face. “He gave everything.”
A Promise From One Father to Another
Deeply moved by the story, Blake Shelton personally reached out to the Ryan family through his team — and made a promise that left everyone in tears.
Through his Healing Highway Foundation, Shelton will fund:
-
A full college education for both of Julian’s children
-
Funeral expenses and housing support for Christinia and her family
-
And the creation of a local memorial scholarship in Julian Ryan’s name, “so kids in Ingram will grow up knowing what a hero looks like.”
But it was the note Blake sent to Christinia that hit the hardest.

The Letter That Tore Hearts in Half
Alongside a bouquet of white lilies and a framed photo of a sunrise over the Guadalupe River, Christinia received a sealed envelope — handwritten by Blake Shelton himself.
Inside was this message:
“Christinia — I am so sorry for your loss. I read what Julian did… how he fought with everything he had to get y’all to safety. That’s not just bravery. That’s the definition of love.
I’ve sung about love, about pain, about sacrifice. But your Julian? He lived it. His story shook me to my core — and I promise you this: I’ll make sure his name lives on. Not in a headline. In a legacy.
You don’t know me. But I’m a dad, too. And from one father to another… I just want to say: He made it. Not just to the roof — but into history. And into our hearts forever.”
A Legacy Bigger Than a Song
Shelton’s upcoming Texas benefit concert, set for later this month, will now include a moment of silence and video tribute for Julian Ryan, with plans to debut a new song inspired by stories of unsung heroes from the flood.
Fans online have already begun using the hashtag #JulianStrong, with one post reading:
“Blake didn’t just give them money — he gave Julian a place in history.”
Christinia, still in mourning, said she hopes her fiancé’s story reminds people what real love looks like.
“He wasn’t famous. But he was everything to us. And now, thanks to Blake… the world knows who he was.”
🕊️ Rest in peace, Julian Ryan.
You didn’t just protect your family — you inspired a nation.
And now, a promise made in your name will help carry them forward.
