Blake Shelton is opening up about the delicious talents of his wife, Gwen Stefani, revealing her prowess in making classic Italian comfort food that keeps him coming back for more.
During the May 15 episode of the Country Heat Weekly podcast with Amber Anderson and Kelly Hutton, Shelton, 48, didn’t hesitate to give Stefani, 55, full credit for cooking at their home. “Gwen mostly cooks,” he shared. “Man, she’s really good at anything Italian. But my favorite is probably lasagna.”
Shelton described how Stefani dedicates an entire day to preparing her homemade lasagna, emphasizing the care and time she invests in this layered pasta masterpiece. “That’s one of those things it takes her all day, like, it’s an all day thing, you know? And I would eat that for the rest of my life.”
But her culinary skills don’t stop there. Shelton highlighted Stefani’s commitment to authenticity, sharing how she makes homemade pizza completely from scratch. “She makes the dough, the dough rises, separates it, like, in the pizza oven. She really does this stuff for real,” he said, praising her dedication to the craft.
The couple, who began dating in 2015 and tied the knot in 2021, share a passion for food and experimentation in the kitchen. Ahead of Thanksgiving 2024, Shelton told PEOPLE magazine about their open-minded food philosophy: “Never say no to any kind of food. Whatever you want to try, I’ll try it. Just bring it on.”
He also revealed his innovative twist on Thanksgiving leftovers. Inspired by a radio tip, Shelton now transforms leftover stuffing into “stuffing waffles” by cooking it in a waffle iron—a new tradition he embraces so much that he purposely makes extra stuffing. “Now I make enough that I know there’ll be some leftover,” he joked.
Shelton also shared stories about their unconventional Thanksgiving turkeys, crafted with fun and flavor in mind. In their first year together, they made a “Flamin’ Hot Cheetos turkey,” crusting the bird in the spicy snack. The following year, Stefani’s sons created a “Funyuns turkey,” which surprisingly tasted close to a traditional turkey. “I guess whatever they put in Funyuns, it’s the same stuff,” Shelton mused.
Looking ahead to 2021, Shelton revealed plans for a bacon-wrapped turkey, inspired by a photo Stefani’s sons saw and insisted they try. “We’re doing it,” he confirmed.
With Stefani’s passion for authentic Italian dishes and the couple’s adventurous approach to family meals, it’s clear their kitchen is a place of both love and creativity—much to Shelton’s delight and appetite.
