Breanna Nix may not have made the Top 2, but she won something deeper — the pride in her son’s eyes and the hearts of everyone watching. Bathed in soft yellow light, she sang with quiet faith and strength. Her voice felt like a prayer, touching the crowd with calm and hope. Her little boy Emerson slept nearby, wrapped in the peace only a mother can give — and you could hear that love in every note. Luke Bryan called it “amazingly solid,” but it was more than that. It was real, raw, and full of heart. Breanna didn’t just sing — she shared her soul.

Breanna Nix: Husband Austin Nix Urged Her to Audition

The Season 23 finale of American Idol aired on Sunday, May 18— and it was all about celebrating the finalists John Foster, Jamal Roberts, and Breanna Nix. But by the night’s end, only one was named the next “American Idol.”

Fans were first introduced to Breanna before the season started. Idol shared her audition video a few days early as a sneak peek of the new season.

Breanna delivered a beautiful rendition of judge Carrie Underwood‘s “Jesus, Take the Wheel.” During her audition, Carrie held Breanna’s son, Emerson, and got emotional when Emerson started to doze off in her arms.

Breanna continued to treat viewers to stunning performances throughout the rest of the season. She poured her heart into covers of songs such as “Something in the Water,” “You’ll Be in My Heart,” and “Still Rolling Stones.”

Thankfully, Idol fans got the chance to hear Breanna sing a few more songs during the finale.

First, Breanna sang “We Are the Champions” with Jamal and John Foster to open the show. Then, each of them took turns singing a solo.

Those initial solo songs were chosen for each contestant by the season’s artist-in-residence, Jelly Roll. He picked Katy Nichole’s “In Jesus Name (God of Possible)” for Breanna, since she has showcased her faith with so much joy throughout the season.

Her moving performance left the Idol judges in awe. Luke Bryan said her delivery was “amazingly solid” and celebrated her “special heart.”

Lionel Richie said Breanna’s faith and belief “has always shone through,” and spoke about how she has a bright future ahead.

Carrie Underwood, with tears in her eyes, said, “You just reminded everybody why we love you.” She added, “God bless you,” after telling Breanna people were listening in that moment who needed to hear the message of faith she just shared.

Bringing things full circle, just like during her audition, Breanna’s adorable son, Emerson, fell asleep during her performance, adding to the moment’s emotions.

Breanna Nix Covers Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb”

For her second solo performance, Breanna covered Miley Cyrus’ inspiring song “The Climb.” She delivered the celebratory performance after a montage played of her recent visit to her hometown of Denton, Texas.

Once again, “The Climb” gave Breanna the opportunity to showcase the power of her voice. The ending note was especially impressive, as her voice reached for the stars.

At the end of the performance, all three judges gave her a standing ovation. Luke Bryan was stunned, remarking that Breanna took him “on an unbelievable ride.”

Lionel echoed his comments, saying it was a “Perfect song, perfect voice, perfect presentation, and very moving.”

Carrie noted that Breanna is an expert at connecting people to her performances. She said, “There’s no way” that people didn’t connect to her rendition of “The Climb.”

Idol fans are so proud of how far Breanna has come since she started her journey on the show. There’s no doubt she has a promising career ahead of her after this!
