With American Idol jumping to two episodes per week, the show looked ahead to Sunday as judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan continued to eliminate contestants during Hollywood Week. Airing on April 6th, just a day later, the contestants will find themselves taking part in the new “Head-to-Head” round. While adding some new elements to the show, American Idol also wanted to celebrate Easter Sunday with a special episode. And with a new episode scheduled to air that night, American Idol produced a special titled “Songs of Faith.”
While a single episode of American Idol can run from an hour to two hours, the producers are pulling out all the stops on Easter with a three-hour special. Besides allowing the remaining contestants to take the stage to sing songs inspired by faith, the night will also feature performances from stars like CeCe Winans, Brandon Lake, Roman Collins, and even Jelly Roll. That was just the start as the three judges also looked to take the stage.
Jelly Roll New “Artist In Residence” On ‘American Idol’
Sharing his love for American Idol, Jelly Roll became somewhat of a constant face on the show. And on April 7th, he will debut as the “Artist in Residence.” Making his appearance during Hollywood Week, Jelly Roll will remain throughout the season, hoping to give the contestants support and maybe a little advice. Given his own past, there appeared no better person to get advice from than Jelly Roll himself.
Making some major changes to how show the operated during season 23, American Idol also celebrated the return of Underwood. Winning season four, the hitmaker hoped to give some advice to those looking to make a career in the music industry.
Proving her ability to offer constructive criticism, showrunner Megan Wolflick praised Underwood, noting, “She embodies the true spirit of ‘Idol’ as she herself is the definition of the Cinderella story. Our future hopefuls will have the chance to receive advice from someone who has walked in their exact footsteps every step of the way. Carrie has always been a strong supporter of ‘Idol,’ and I’m thrilled for her to be reunited with our ‘Idol’ Family.”
With Underwood, Richie, Bryan, Jelly Roll, and several others taking the stage for the “Songs of Faith” special.
