As The Voice: Battle of Champions moves closer to finding its winner, Coach Kelly Clarkson emotionally reminded us all that there are no losers: anyone who gets to sing for an audience and move people with their music is so “lucky.”
During the All-Star Showdown, which saw the three Coaches bring back standout Artists from previous seasons, Clarkson reunited with Jake Hoot, winner of Season 17. Hoot, a country singer, was a 1-Chair Turn who made it all the way to the top, and his performance of “Desperado” by the Eagles reminded everyone why during the April 6 episode of The Voice.
“Mr. Hoot,” Clarkson told her former Artist. “I think not only are you one of the best country singers that’s ever been on this show but I also think you’re like a true gentleman, and that’s rare.”
Kelly Clarkson explained why she was brought to tears on The Voice
Getting choked up, Clarkson continued to tell Hoot, “That part you did at the end like, broke me which is why I’m tearing up. That little falsetto man, that move, it’s not just a cool move to do, it’s sincere and it’s why I love music.”
Looking around the room at Artists from across years of The Voice who’ve had their dreams come true thanks to the show — and knowing that she got her own start on a reality TV competition — Clarkson became overwhelmed.
“It’s why I love all these Artists in this room and we’re so lucky,” she said before wiping away tears. “We’re so lucky to get to do what we do.”
Clarkson’s not alone in thinking that getting an audience is a prize worth more than getting a trophy. Former Coach Michael Bublé eloquently explained to NBC Insider that his favorite part about being a Coach on The Voice is getting to witness how much people’s live have changed.
“My favorite part about it was when I had to let people go for the first time, I was upset about it. Until I realized that their lives had changed. Until I realized that their careers had started. They started to create a business that could go on,” he shared. “Their socials have grown…just from being on this massive television program that has seven to 11 million people watching all over the planet.”
