American Idol Season 24’s Top 20 contestants learned their fate during Monday night’s Songs of Faith episode.

For the first time this season, American Idol went live with an episode featuring the Top 20 singing songs of faith and the naming of the Top 14. Six hopefuls were sent home during an emotional elimination as America’s votes were revealed.

Ryan Seacrest wasted no time revealing the results. After the Top 20 performed with Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan to kick off the episode, he got to business by announcing which 14 hopefuls would be singing for America’s votes once again. At the end of the episode, two more were set to be eliminated.

The Top 14 Results

Before the next round of competition got underway, Ryan Seacrest had the tough job of revealing who was advancing and whose Idol journeys were coming to an end.

Those who made it to the Top 14 are:

Rae
Daniel Stallworth
Brooks Rosser
Philmon Lee
Braden Rumfelt

What’s next for the Top 14?

The Top 14 each performed a Song of Faith, an inspirational tune with special meaning to them. America voted for who they wanted to advance to the next round.

Two more hopefuls were scheduled to be sent home at the end of the episode after voting closed.

In an unprecedented move, production made a last-minute decision to postpone the end-of-episode elimination. The Top 14 were lined up on stage, awaiting their fate, when Ryan Seacrest announced the change of plans.

“We have had five ways to vote tonight. Tens of millions of votes coming in, at a rate we have never seen before. Truly unprecedented. And to ensure complete accuracy with the numbers, I was literally just told that we are not going to announce eliminations tonight,” Seacrest announced.

The contestants and judges were clearly shocked at the news. Seacrest revealed that the eliminations would be announced at the beginning of next week’s episode.
