Amanda Holden struggled to contain her emotions as she hit Britain’s Got Talent’s Golden Buzzer. The telly star started welling up as The Hawkstone Farmers Choir took to the stage on Saturday night.

Taking to the stage at Birmingham’s Hippodrome, Katryna Shell told the judges: “Jeremy Clarkson did a thing…” leaving Amanda, guest judge Stacey Solomon, Alesha Dixon and KSI completely baffled.

She added: “And that thing is… The Hawkstone Farmers Choir. Jeremy brought us together to sing, and it’s just really been amazing for us all.” The group, consisting of farmers from across the country, left the judges completely stunned. Katryna told Amanda that each member of the group works alone for up to 17 hours per day due to their job.

“As a family, we’ve got one thing that unites us, and that’s farming. We love what we do, but it can be hard,” Katryna said, adding that the choir “meant the world ” to the group. The 32-strong group, with ages ranging from 27 to 74, performed a stunning rendition of One Day Like This by Elbow, prompting Amanda to look emotional just seconds into the performance as the audience roared with applause.

“Oh my God,” Amanda exclaimed as she leapt out of her seat as the performance drew to a close, with the crowd and all four judges offering a standing ovation. Blown away, Amanda, who was sitting as Head Judge in replacement for Simon Cowell, whacked the Golden Buzzer – meaning the choir were straight through to the semi-finals.

But the decision came as a complete shock, with host Ant McPartlin shouting: “Oh my what?!” as the choir burst into cheers and tears. “You’ve just made their whole lives,” Stacey told Amanda.

Speaking to her Golden Buzzer act, Amanda said: “As soon as you, God, it’s so silly. As soon as you started, I completely welled up. I felt so much power. I love the whole community. I love how you’ve all got together and work your a***s off. You work so hard every single day. You absolutely smashed it and I can’t wait to see what you do in the semi-finals. Congratulations.”

Stacey added: “I don’t think anyone will understand the power of a choir unless they’ve been in a choir. It’s such an incredible space to release and just letting it go. I’m so grateful that I got to experience that in real life, so thank you and congrats.” “Music is so powerful, it’s like therapy, and you could really feel that, it sounded beautiful,” said Alesha.

YouTube star KSI added: “Wow! Talk about multi-talented. Farming and then singing. Honestly, it felt like you belonged there. Congratulations, and we’ll see you soon.”

Speaking about getting the Golden Buzzer, Katryna from Northumberland said: “The choir has turned into something so much more than singing… We have come together as a community, something I didn’t even anticipate. The choir is filled with all sorts of people with varying ages, singing experience, parts of the country, but we all have farming linking us together – it’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced before.”

Hugh Thomas, from Pembrokeshire said: “I had to pinch myself – this was really happening to an old boy from Pembrokeshire! Performing on National TV wasn’t something I ever envisaged… More importantly it will shine a light on agriculture, farming and the rural economy.”

Britain’s Got Talent continues next Saturday at 6:45pm on ITV1, ITVX and STV.
