While she didn\u2019t make a mistake on the slopes, Team USA gold medal skier\u00a0Mikaela Shiffrin\u00a0had a major flub on Thursday, Feb. 19, during a live broadcast on the\u00a0Today<\/em>\u00a0show.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old Olympian was being interviewed live from Milan, Italy, the day after she won gold medal in women\u2019s slalom. While discussing an emotional moment she had at the top of the mountain, speaking to her late father,\u00a0Jeff Shiffrin, who died suddenly in 2020,\u00a0Mikaela accidentally let multiple expletives slip.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s been, definitely, a spiritual journey I\u2019ve been on the last year. I just, I don\u2019t know, I took a moment and I said\u2026 f\u2014ing,\u201d Mikaela said before exclaiming, \u201cS\u2014!\u201d clamping her hand over her mouth and saying, \u201cOh my God, I\u2019m so sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Co-hosts\u00a0Carson Daly,\u00a0Hoda Kotb\u00a0and\u00a0Craig Melvin\u00a0loved the moment, cracking up and reassuring the Olympic athlete it was fine.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe got you!\u201d Kotb assured her. \u201cWe\u2019ll pay the fine,\u201d she added, referencing the FCC Broadcasting rules.<\/p>\n

Melvin quipped, \u201cWe know what you meant. We know what you meant. You\u2019re wearing gold! It\u2019s okay. It\u2019s okay,\u201d later adding of Mikaela, \u201cShe\u2019s just like us!\u201d<\/p>\n

Mikaela struggled to move past the flub, saying, \u201cOh my God, that\u2019s so bad.\u201d<\/p>\n

She later discussed her teammates pushing espresso martinis on her the previous night after she won gold.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone kept handing me espresso martinis because I said it was my destiny to have one last night,\u201d she explained. \u201cSo everyone kept bringing them to me, but then they would also say \u2014 which may be some of the reason for the swearing, so sorry again \u2014 but no, they just kept handing them to me. They\u2019re like, \u2018But pace yourself. Here\u2019s another but pace yourself.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

The NBC morning show co-hosts were charmed by the impromptu moment, with Kotb adding, \u201cIf it was possible to love you even more than we already did, today\u2019s the day!\u201d<\/p>\n

After Mikaela signed off, Daly, who lost both his parents in 2017, said of Mikaela\u2019s response, \u201cIt\u2019s not a canned answer. You know, she\u2019s talking about her father. She\u2019s moved in the moment. It happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mikaela\u2019s major win at the Milan Cortina Games ended an eight-year Olympic medal drought for the professional athlete. She also became the first U.S. skier to win three Olympic gold medals, following her 2014 gold in Sochi in the same event, and giant slalom gold in Pyeongchang in 2018.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
