Lindsey Vonn<\/span>\u2018s sister insists the Olympic icon is \u2018super strong\u2019 despite her gruesome leg break after battling through a \u2018rough\u2019 week in hospital.<\/p>\n

Vonn, 41, underwent four surgeries in Italy after fracturing her complex tibia in a horror skiing crash at the Winter\u00a0Olympics<\/span>.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

The serious damage suffered to her leg requires multiple procedures, while one specialist has warned that some\u00a0similar injuries even require amputation<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Following her older sister\u2019s fourth op on Saturday, and release from hospital on Sunday, Karin Kildow has told\u00a0TMZ Sports\u00a0that she is now taking it \u2018one day at a time.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s been a rough one, been in the hospital a lot,\u2019 Kildow, 37, admitted. \u2018Just one day at a time. She\u2019s super strong, but there\u2019s a lot of surgeries and things. We\u2019re working on getting her back to the U.S.\u2019<\/p>\n

On Monday night, Vonn confirmed she had returned home and paid tribute to hospital staff in Europe. \u2018[I] haven\u2019t stood on my feet in over a week\u2026 been in a hospital bed immobile since my race,\u2019 she posted on social media.<\/p>\n

The 41-year-old Vonn has undergone four surgeries after a horror crash at the Winter Olympics<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u2018And although I\u2019m not yet able to stand, being back on home soil feels amazing\u2026 huge thank you to everyone in Italy for taking good care of me.\u2019<\/p>\n

Critics on social media have questioned Vonn\u2019s decision to compete in the women\u2019s downhill race on the day after suffering a torn ACL in the lead-up to it.<\/p>\n

But Karin says the family are not paying any attention to the negativity online.<\/p>\n

\u2018You know what? Everyone\u2019s gonna have their thing to say, I think\u2026 but she\u2019s strong and she did it,\u2019 she concluded.<\/p>\n

Earlier on Monday, Vonn\u00a0shared a behind-the-scenes video<\/span>\u00a0from hospital on Instagram, which shows her undergoing exercises, having her hair washed and being fed dinner while stepping up her recovery.<\/p>\n

She also included the caption: \u2018Thankful for friends, family, my team and all the medical staff that are getting me back to myself\u2026. I\u2019m slowly coming back to life, back to basics and the simple things in life that mean the most. Smile. Laugh. Love.<\/p>\n

Vonn lost control last Sunday over the opening traverse after cutting the line too tight and was spun around in the air.<\/p>\n
