Country star Blake Shelton, who was part of the original Coach lineup of\u00a0The Voice<\/i>\u00a0and stayed for over 20 seasons, may have retired from the red chairs, but he will always be part of the show\u2019s DNA. And the wonderful performance from the first night of the Season 28 Battles just proved it. As the episode drew to a close, Team Bubl\u00e9 Artists Austin Gilbert and Rob Cole rehearsed and duetted \u201cHoney Bee,\u201d a song from Shelton\u2019s 2011 album\u00a0Red River Blue.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cBlake would be happy to hear you do your version of Blake\u2019s song,\u201d Coach\u00a0Michael Bubl\u00e9\u00a0advised the singers, encouraging them to \u201cbend it to [their will].\u201d<\/p>\n

Their\u00a0Battle Advisor, country singer and Season 27 Coach\u00a0Kelsea Ballerini, completely agreed, telling the two, \u201cWhatever changes you make to it, you just have to be 100 percent committed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Shelton of it all definitely came through in the performance. After they sang, Coach\u00a0Snoop Dogg, who sits in the red chair Shelton previously occupied, told Rob and Austin, \u201cI felt the spirit of Blake Shelton when y\u2019all was singing that. Something in his seat moved my legs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Just getting to the Battle rounds is a huge accomplishment for any singer, but it was especially emotional for these two. Just a few seasons ago, Rob Cole received zero chair turns, but he told himself, \u201cNo does not mean never.\u201d It was all the more gratifying, then, when Bubl\u00e9 declared him the winner of his Battle.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Austin Gilbert performed in front of his pregnant fianc\u00e9e, aching to make her proud, and when\u00a0Reba McEntire\u00a0pressed her button to steal him, he literally fell to his knees in gratitude.\u00a0\u201cAustin, your enthusiasm, your big heart, your gorgeous voice\u2026you\u2019re a cowboy. I\u2019m so thrilled you\u2019re now a part of Team Reba,\u201d she told him.<\/p>\n
