After 28 seasons, you\u2019d think\u00a0The Voice<\/i>\u00a0would have seen and heard it all. But that\u2019s the beautiful thing about music: There\u2019s always more to explore. During the October 6 episode of Blind Auditions, an Artist arrived with a new and unique skillset that got him a 4-Chair Turn and major praise from the Coaches.<\/p>\n

Dustin grew up on a blend of rhythm and blues, New Orleans-style, and\u00a0country music, as well as Cajun traditional\u00a0music, which he labels as \u201cswamp\u201d music.<\/p>\n

The last few years, Dustin has been living in his car and says he has traveled 100,000 miles in pursuit of his music career..<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I\u2019m on the road, it\u2019s hours of driving getting to a city, singing for a couple of hours, and then finding a parking lot to sleep in,\u201d he says. \u201cI\u2019ve just been focusing on honing the craft, and the coaches will be able to really break through the ceiling and join the table of\u00a0success. A chair turn would justify all the sacrifices I\u2019ve made.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Louisiana<\/p>\n

Dustin Dale Gaspard is a 33-year-old Cajun singer from Cow Island, Louisiana, an area with as many people as alligators (or, as Gaspard calls them, \u201cswamp puppies\u201d). He plays what he calls \u201cswamp pup music,\u201d which he describes as \u201crhythm-and-blues New Orleans-filled music\u201d that\u2019s also country western-influenced mixed with Cajun traditional styles. Gaspard is bilingual in Cajun French and lives in his car so he can travel from gig to gig, with\u00a0The Voice<\/em>\u00a0being the biggest gig of all.<\/p>\n

Gaspard\u2019s Blind Audition represents \u201cthe first time Cajun French [has been] sung on\u00a0The Voice,<\/em>\u201d he said. Here\u2019s how his Blind Audition went:<\/p>\n

Guitar in hand, Gaspard stepped up to the mic with confidence, but he began his song, Sam Cooke\u2019s \u201cBring It On Home To Me,\u201d on another instrument. \u201cHe\u2019s playing the harmonica already?\u201d asked Coach\u00a0Michael Bubl\u00e9. Harmonica, guitar, English and Cajun French all went into the Blind Audition, and netted Gaspard chair turns from all four Coaches!<\/p>\n

Calling him \u201cproper unique,\u201d Coach\u00a0Niall Horan\u00a0said he would\u2019ve listened to Gaspard sing \u201cBaa Baa Black Sheep\u201d and begged,\u201dPlease pick me, I love you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m from southeastern Oklahoma, so not far from where you are. You\u2019re different. You\u2019re unusual. You\u2019re refreshing. And you can sing and play,\u201d added Coach\u00a0Reba McEntire. Bubl\u00e9 praised the Artist\u2019s authenticity, while Coach\u00a0Snoop Dogg\u00a0referenced his own family in the American South and then sang back to him, \u201cIf you ever change your mind and think about leaving, leaving me behind, pick me, bring it on over to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ultimately, Gaspard went with Team Niall.\u00a0In a\u00a0December 2022 interview\u00a0with\u00a0NBC Insider<\/em>, Horan said,\u00a0\u201cI love finding new talent online and things, so I really wanted to get involved and find a new crop of talent that we can nurture.\u201d That definitely described the latest member of his team!<\/p>\n
