How It All Started<\/h3>\n

The events began with a normal COVID-19 scare. Paloma Nicole\u2019s mother told her father, Carlos Arellano, that they would go to the mountains of Durango to get away from it all. She warned him that there might not be a signal. Carlos believed her story, not knowing that it was just the start of a nightmare.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy daughter\u2019s mom told me they were going to the mountains for about four days.\u201d Carlos said, \u201cShe told me not to worry if I couldn\u2019t reach them.\u201d At the time, everything seemed normal. But a few days later, he got a call that would change everything.<\/p>\n

The doctors tried to make her stable. They saw signs of improvement by September 19: she could move her hand and turn her head. That night, though, her condition got worse. Brain swelling got \u201cvery serious, terminal,\u201d and on September 20, she was declared brain dead.<\/p>\n
