Miranda Lambert<\/strong>\u00a0and ex-husband\u00a0Blake Shelton<\/strong>\u00a0have had their fair share of negative press when it comes to their relationship.<\/p>\n

But a couple years ago, Miranda opened up about a beautiful moment they shared together writing a song about the loss of Blake\u2019s late brother, Richie, who passed unexpectedly in a car accident in 1990 when Blake was just a teenager.<\/p>\n

On the\u00a0Apple\u2019s Essentials Radio podcast\u00a0<\/em>with Kelleigh Bannen, Miranda told the story of writing \u201cOver You\u201d with then-husband, Blake Shelton.<\/p>\n

It was included on her 2011 album\u00a0Four The Record<\/em>, and released as her second single from the project. It eventually hit #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, and she won several ACM and CMA awards for it.<\/p>\n

Miranda explained little bit about the background of the song:<\/p>\n

\u201cMy ex-husband, Blake, had lost a brother and it\u2019s one of those moments where even if you\u2019re married to someone, sometimes you find something new about them.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Dudes don\u2019t open up about things, but he started telling me about the experience of it all.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

And I was like, \u2018Have you ever written about it?\u2019 Same thing. And he\u2019s like, \u2018No,\u2019 and he was like, \u2018Well, my dad just says, \u2018You don\u2019t get over it. You just get used to it.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Well, could we write it? Do you want to try or is that invasive?\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Understandably, she was concerned he might not want to put his feelings about such a tragic loss out to the public.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t know how to\u2026 I would never try to write your story because I didn\u2019t live it, but maybe I could help because I\u2019m an outside perspective but I feel your pain talking to me right now\u2026.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Like she\u2019s said before, music is medicine, and it\u2019s true. His family was able to find closure in having that song to honor Blake\u2019s brother and remember him in such a heartfelt, sincere way:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was really a special moment and I\u2019m so glad we shared that song and that it helped his family heal, to have that together.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

As to why Blake gave Miranda the song to record instead of keeping it for himself? It\u2019s not hard to imagine why, but Blake wasn\u2019t sure he\u2019d be able to get through singing it every night.<\/p>\n
