Miranda Lambert refused to do press to promote her post-Blake Shelton divorce album \u201cThe Weight of These Wings\u201d \u2014 because she knew she\u2019d be asked about Shelton\u2019s relationship with Gwen Stefani.<\/p>\n

\u201cI came into [manager] Marion [Kraft\u2019s] office and said, \u2018I\u2019m not speaking to anyone until they hear this record,\u2019\u201d Lambert, 34, told HITS Daily Double. \u201cIt was going to be hell, and I\u2019d already been through hell,\u201d she explained. \u201cIt was hell putting it on paper, putting my words on paper. So I didn\u2019t want to rehash. I\u2019d finally gotten to a place where I wasn\u2019t sad anymore \u2026 It would\u2019ve set up some expectation that couldn\u2019t be met. I was very publicly going through this thing, and there wasn\u2019t an explanation to be given.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shelton, 42, and Lambert filed for divorce in July 2015. By September, Shelton had taken up with fellow \u201cVoice\u201d coach Stefani, with whom he\u2019s essentially been on a PDA tour ever since.<\/p>\n

When Lambert caved and broke her no-press vow, it had the most predictable possible outcome.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got on the phone for the first interview. First question was, \u2018How do you feel about Gwen?\u2019 I hung up,\u201d she said. \u201cI told Marion, \u2018I just can\u2019t do this.\u2019 What was in the music was real, and I wanted people to get it from that. Take from it what they would. Then if I needed to talk, I would. But I haven\u2019t really until now.\u201d<\/p>\n

She explained that the themes on her record reflected who she was at that moment in time, but admitted she can\u2019t stay that same person forever.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am who I am. I am honest about being flawed. That\u2019s all I can be, you know? I cuss. I drink. I get divorced and get my heart broken. I break hearts. I can\u2019t do or be that anymore, or it\u2019ll drive me crazy. I won\u2019t be good anymore,\u201d she said. \u201cI felt, maybe, a different kind of fear than any other record. It was really my life\u2019s work and my life\u2019s story. But there was also relief, I was thankful to let the music do what the music does \u2014 and to allow myself that.\u201d<\/p>\n

A source\u00a0previously told Page Six\u00a0of Lambert\u2019s deliberate post-split silence, \u201cShe only wanted to do TV performances. She made them turn all of it down. She said, \u2018Gwen\u2019s and Blake\u2019s albums didn\u2019t sell, and all they did was do press.\u2019 She\u2019s trying to go Beyonc\u00e9 and let the music do the talking.\u201d<\/p>\n
