Miranda Lambert reflected on her high-profile divorce from Blake Shelton in a new interview with CBS News, telling the outlet she has a very specific way of handling the rumors.<\/p>\n

Divorce in the spotlight can be strange, just ask\u00a0Miranda Lambert<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Seven years after she and fellow country star\u00a0Blake Shelton<\/strong>\u00a0called it quits, the 38-year-old reflected on the tabloid-frenzy that surrounded\u00a0their\u00a0high-profile divorce.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t prepared for that,\u201d Miranda\u00a0recently told\u00a0CBS News<\/em>. \u201cI don\u2019t think anybody is. And it\u2019s not nice sometimes, but\u00a0I think you got to take it with a grain of salt.\u201d<\/p>\n

Luckily, the \u201cActin\u2019 Up\u201d singer has her music as a way of\u00a0cutting through the\u00a0gossip\u00a0and getting her side of the story out there to her fans.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a singer-songwriter so luckily\u00a0I can tell my whole truth,\u201d she shared. \u201cI will not lie in my music.\u201d<\/p>\n

Miranda and Blake began dating in 2006 and tied the knot at the Don Strange Ranch in Boerne, Texas in 2011. In July 2015,\u00a0the former couple announced that they were divorcing after four years of marriage, amid\u00a0rumors of infidelity\u00a0that were never confirmed.<\/p>\n

Later that year, Blake later moved on with his\u00a0The Voice<\/em>\u00a0co-star\u00a0Gwen Stefani, and the two tied the knot last summer. After short-lived relationships with\u00a0Anderson East\u00a0and\u00a0The Turnpike Troubadours\u2019\u00a0lead singer\u00a0Evan Felker, Miranda also found her happily ever after with NYDP officer\u00a0Brendan McLoughlin,\u00a0who she\u00a0married in January 2019\u00a0after just a few months of dating.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

\u201cI feel like I\u2019ve been through enough in my life to know what I don\u2019t want,\u201d she told\u00a0Health<\/em>\u00a0in November 2019 of the whirlwind romance. \u201cSo when I know what I do want, I snatch it right up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brendan\u00a0has even been featured in several of his wife\u2019s music videos including \u201cIf I Was A Cowboy,\u201d \u201cTequila Does (Telemitry Remix)\u201d and\u00a0\u201cSettling Down,\u201d a song inspired by him.<\/p>\n

With\u00a0a supportive partner\u00a0and red-hot career, Miranda admitted she\u2019s never been happier.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve grown up and I\u2019ve learned a lot about myself and I think at some point you start to settle into who you are,\u201d she told CBS News.\u00a0\u201cI feel at peace with myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ouch! But Lambert isn\u2019t quite sure\u00a0what<\/em>\u00a0she was thinking about\u2014other than sensing the end of a relationship before it comes\u2014when she penned the song that was on her 2001 self-titled independent debut before she even appeared on\u00a0Nashville Star<\/em>. But it turned out to be\u00a0prescient!<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of my songs have come back to me,\u201d she\u00a0told the U.K.\u2019s\u00a0Songwriting\u00a0<\/em>magazine\u00a0in 2020. \u201cOne of them was \u2018Leave Me Lyin\u2019 Here.\u2019 It was one of the very first songs I ever wrote, on my independent little CD I made. Now, thinking back, I don\u2019t know how I wrote that or where I was coming from. Obviously, I was taking from people around me because I hadn\u2019t lived enough life for it to have come from my own perspective. Then, as time went on, I couldn\u2019t believe that it came out of me then because it struck a chord so much now.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

She gives a hint in this track off of her star-making 2005 album\u00a0Kerosene<\/em>\u00a0that she has a little trouble staying away from the guys who may not be so good for her. It\u2019s not the first time such a vice would come up.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the full album came out that March, and she would meet\u00a0Blake Shelton<\/strong>\u00a0a few months later.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The metaphor for a relationship that\u2019s lost its bloom is thick in this 2009\u00a0song, the lead single off of her fourth studio album,\u00a0Revolution<\/em>. At the time she was happily ensconced with future husband Shelton, still just her boyfriend of several years at that point, but Lambert said it was inspired by actual dead Valentine\u2019s Day flowers from her past.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wrote it from a love gone bad point of view,\u201d Lambert\u00a0wrote on her website, \u201cbut a girl told my mom that the lyrics were exactly how she felt when her dad left her. That really meant a lot to me and was such a different take on the song.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The opening track off of 2016\u2019s\u00a0The Weight of These Wings\u00a0<\/em>lays out Lambert\u2019s lingering heartbreak following her split from\u00a0<\/strong>Shelton\u00a0the previous year for all to see.<\/p>\n

Because as the band\u00a0Nazareth<\/strong>\u00a0said, \u201cLove hurts, love scars, love wounds and marks.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Lambert has talked candidly about 2016\u2019s double album\u00a0The Weight of These Wings<\/em>\u00a0being her post-divorce confessional. But since she had met musician\u00a0Anderson East\u00a0<\/strong>by the end of 2015, the concern about getting her heart broken all over again couldn\u2019t have been too far from her mind.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

This was ripped from experience, too, as Lambert acknowledged in 2017 to a small audience at Joe\u2019s Bar in Chicago. \u201cI got divorced so I started drinking a little extra,\u201d she explained. \u201cAnyways, I found myself in Midtown in Nashville three nights in a row at last call and with the lights coming on, and I\u2019m still sitting there. So I wrote a song about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

East co-wrote this one off of\u00a0The Weight of These Wings<\/em>\u00a0with Lambert and veteran country song scribe\u00a0Natalie Hemby<\/strong>, so trade that stolen car in for a white horse and we know how Lambert escaped her downward spiral.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a way of reclaiming your humor after you\u2019ve been so sad,\u201d Lambert explained\u00a0this 2018\u00a0Pistol Annies<\/strong>\u00a0song in a\u00a0behind-the-scenes video. \u201cTo me, it\u2019s celebrating reclaiming part of yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also\u00a0jokingly told the\u00a0Tennessean\u00a0<\/em>that year that being part of a trio sometimes was helpful because they could\u00a0share more dirty details and then point the \u201cthat\u2019s not\u00a0my<\/em>\u00a0story!\u201d finger at each other.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Nothing cryptic about the inspiration for this tune off of 2019\u2019s\u00a0Wildcard\u00a0<\/em>that was\u00a0released as a single a couple years back, especially when husband\u00a0Brendan McLoughlin\u00a0<\/strong>became Lambert\u2019s first-ever co-star in real life to make it into one of her videos. (\u201cI needed a video babe and he was there, so it just worked out,\u201d she\u00a0quipped to\u00a0ET Canada<\/em>\u00a0in 2020.)<\/p>\n

But at the same time, \u201cSettling Down\u201d is an honest discussion with herself about whether taking another shot at committing to forever is the right choice for her. The seed for the song was planted during a conversation she had with her tour bus driver.\u00a0\u201cWe had both been going through a lot in our personal lives,\u201d she\u00a0told\u00a0Billboard\u00a0<\/em>in 2020.\u00a0Lambert and the driver\u00a0concluded that \u201csettling down doesn\u2019t have to necessarily mean no more fun or freedom. Maybe it sets you more free and allows for more fun and someone to share it with.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Something to get the heart thumping, but in a good way, as she was again inspired by the newfound love in her life.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn general, on this record and where I am in my life, I drew from a different place,\u201d Lambert\u00a0acknowledged to\u00a0Songwriting<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>magazine two years ago. \u201cBy getting a little happier and coming out of a bad time in my life I think it allowed me to show up to writing sessions in a different headspace than I was in before.\u201d<\/p>\n
