The odds were stacked high against Adam David. In The Voice\u2019s Season 27 Semifinals, he had to sing for the Wildcard Instant Save \u2014 not a great omen moving into the Top 5. But Team Michael Bubl\u00e9\u2019s MVP just kept doing what he does \u2014 performing with as much feeling as consistency \u2014 and gave his coach a second consecutive win. (Read the recap.) How does it feel? TVLine asked David exactly that and lots more.<\/p>\n
TVLINE | I can\u2019t tell you how happy I am to be talking to you, because for the longest time watching the show, I thought, \u201cOh, this guy is terrific.\u201d But I didn\u2019t think you were gonna win.

Were you thinking, \u201cWell,\u00a0this\u2019ll\u00a0<\/em>be a short run\u201d?<\/strong> TVLINE\u00a0<\/strong>|\u00a0If you were going back and critiquing yourself, was there a performance that you were especially happy with? \n[Laughs<\/em>] Right, right, right.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\nHonestly, for me, one chair was enough. From there, every time I made it through, I just saw it as another chance to do better. I picked all of my performances apart watching them back. I\u2019m a bit of a perfectionist and want to be at 100 percent all the time. But I am learning how to give myself compassion because it\u2019s not a realistic expectation for anybody.<\/p>\n
\nI\u2019ll tell you this: With the last two performances, \u201cYou Are So Beautiful\u201d and \u201cHard Fought Hallelujah,\u201d I have not watched them, because I don\u2019t\u00a0want<\/em>\u00a0to pick them apart. The moment to me felt so amazing. So I think that\u2019s something.<\/p>\n
\nRight. I don\u2019t want to ruin it for myself. That moment was so powerful to me, and the response seemed to be mostly positive, and I\u2019d rather the moment just be that special thing. Maybe eventually I\u2019ll learn how to be truly objective.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>
\nRight. I\u2019ll give you a perfect example. [Teddy Swims\u2019] \u201cLose Control,\u201d the Instant Save song. I had performed stronger. But I can watch that back and say that objectively, because only someone who\u2019s been in that exact position knows exactly how I felt.<\/p>\n![\"The](\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/the-voice-michael-buble-adam-david-1014x570.jpg\")
\nIt was such an intense moment. You\u2019re dealing with the grief of not being called to be one of the Top 4 with the fear that \u201cThis is it. I\u2019m going home now.\u201d And then you\u2019ve got a little bit of this oomph. I was like, \u201cWell, man, if I\u2019m going home, anyway, I\u2019m going out strong.\u201d So I can give myself the self-compassion of saying, \u201cYou know, that was intense. I did my best.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe\u2019s just a really genuine guy. And I feel like that\u2019s something I try to be. He\u2019s also very connected with the music and serving the music, giving back, and those are things that I feel deeply about as well. He\u2019s just a good dude, man. I kept being like, \u201cIs he gonna be this cool all the time?\u201d But that\u2019s just who he is.<\/p>\n
\nTeddy Swims. I just did a Brandon Lake song. Jelly Roll. I\u2019m a huge fan of John Mayer and Gary Clark Jr. Marcus King. Allen Stone. I just love these guys\u2019 music, and they influence my music a lot. And Michael. I really want to do something with Michael. The way that we played together on \u201cThe Weight\u201d was so fun.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n<\/div>
\nA lot of people I haven\u2019t talked to in a very long time have reached out \u2014 some of those are surprising. A lot of the messages that I\u2019m getting are from people that are in recovery, too. I saw one that said she was 29 days clean, you know? And that\u2019s what this is, man. This win\u2019s not just for me, it\u2019s also for the people that are still struggling.<\/p>\n
\nThere\u2019s something that we say: We do recover. I know what it feels like to be stuck in what seems to be an endless loop, and I can say that it\u2019s possible to get out of it. It can be challenging, but anything worth doing is challenging, you know? And if I can do it, anybody can. There\u2019s a clich\u00e9 that we say, which is you can get a life beyond your wildest dreams. And right now I\u2019m living that. I hope anyone can take that message and get the help that they need \u2014 and there\u2019s nothing wrong with asking for help. There\u2019s something about being vulnerable and leaning into the vulnerability that can change your life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
