Back when John Foster first walked into the American Idol audition room, cowboy hat in hand and a nervous grin stitched across his face, he probably didn\u2019t expect to get gut-checked by one of\u00a0country\u2019s biggest stars. Luke Bryan, never one to sugarcoat, looked him square in the eye and questioned whether the Louisiana kid had what it took to go the distance.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know if you could sing good enough,\u201d Bryan said during that early audition.<\/p>\n

Fast forward to Top 7 night, and Bryan was singing a whole new tune. \u201cMan, no one has ever proved me more wrong,\u201d he admitted, eyes wide with disbelief and pride. \u201cAnd I\u2019m so glad.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the kind of full-circle Idol moment that rarely writes itself so neatly, but Foster didn\u2019t stumble into it. He earned it with one of his most vulnerable and controlled performances: George Strait\u2019s timeless love song\u00a0\u201cI Cross My Heart.\u201d<\/p>\n
