One year after winning the Academy of Country Music Awards\u2019 Song of the Year trophy for \u201cDirt Cheap,\u201d Johnson stepped back into the spotlight carrying even more emotional weight than before. Just moments after being named Male Artist of the Year, the Texas native delivered his powerful rendition of \u201cTravelin\u2019 Soldier,\u201d the heartbreaking military ballad first made famous by The Chicks in 2002 \u2014 and for many viewers, it became far more than just another awards show performance.<\/p>\n

An outspoken supporter of America\u2019s military and veterans, Johnson has spent years honoring the sacrifices made by service members and their families. \u201cThe healing process will take many weeks, and it is not possible for me to sing during this time,\u201d Johnson shared on Instagram. \u201cWithout the surgery, my downtime could be months.\u201d<\/p>\n
