The rising country singer says the competition pushed him harder than ever before, but also gave him confidence for whatever comes next.<\/p>\n<p>The Gallatin, Tennessee native first caught the judges\u2019 attention during Season 24 with his original audition song, \u201cFall in Love Someday.\u201d Week after week, Leon delivered standout performances that ultimately earned him a place in the Top 7. Now, with the show behind him, he\u2019s focused on building the next chapter of his career.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-4\"><\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/americansongwriter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/BP.jpg?fit=2000%2C1125\" alt=\"Watch Brad Paisley Surprise 'American Idol' Singer With Grand Ole Opry  Invitation During Season Finale - American Songwriter\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of the biggest moments of Leon\u2019s Idol journey came during the season finale, when he returned to the stage alongside country superstar Brad Paisley, one of the show\u2019s guest mentors. Following the performance, Paisley surprised Leon with an invitation to make his Grand Ole Opry debut.<\/p>\n<p>Although an official date has not yet been announced, Leon said the opportunity means everything to him as a lifelong country music fan.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-5\"><\/div>\n<p>Fresh off graduating high school, Leon is already staying busy. He\u2019s set to perform alongside fellow American Idol contestants at the 19 Recordings showcase in Nashville on June 3 ahead of CMA Fest. He also recently released a brand-new song titled \u201cThe Crazy Kind,\u201d an upbeat love track that he says was written simply to be fun.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Crazy Kind\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9iNYehBsZuk?feature=oembed\" width=\"790\" height=\"593\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-origwidth=\"790\" data-origheight=\"593\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Looking back on his American Idol experience, Leon described the process as exhausting but rewarding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a lot of hard work, but it was an awesome experience,\u201d he said. \u201cBottom line, I\u2019d do it again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He explained that competing on live television every week taught him valuable lessons about pressure, preparation, and performing in front of millions of viewers.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/countrynow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Untitled-1200-x-633-px-1200-x-800-px-11-5.jpg\" alt=\"Lucas Leon Reflects on 'American Idol' Journey, Brad Paisley's Opry Invite  &amp; What's Next [Exclusive] - Country Now\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Behind the scenes, Leon admitted the reality of the show was far more demanding than fans might realize.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it looks more glamorous than it is,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s stressful. You\u2019ve got to be mentally ready for everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Leon, contestants spent long days preparing every detail of their performances, from wardrobe and staging to vocal coaching and song arrangements. On live show days, some contestants had call times as early as 5:30 in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou pretty much stay in wardrobe all day,\u201d he explained. \u201cThen you do a full dress rehearsal exactly like the live show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the pressure, Leon said one of the highlights of the experience was spending time with Brad Paisley in Hawaii during the mentoring portion of the competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s insane to me that I kind of got to just hang out with Brad,\u201d he said. \u201cWhat a legend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/countrynow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Lucas-Leon.png\" alt=\"Lucas Leon Reflects on His 'American Idol' Run After Shock Elimination -  Country Now\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As a guitarist himself, Leon praised Paisley\u2019s musical talent and admitted he hopes to one day reach even a small piece of the level Paisley has achieved.<\/p>\n<p>He also revealed that Paisley may have hinted at the Grand Ole Opry invitation earlier than fans realized.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he soft launched the whole Opry thing there,\u201d Leon said. \u201cHe said, \u2018Hey, maybe come hang out with me.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"eyeo\" data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1785005\" data-uid=\"1680c\" data-src-id=\"${PUBLISHER_ID}\">\n<div id=\"mgw1785005_1680c\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>When Paisley officially invited him to perform at the Opry, Leon said it felt surreal, especially because he had recently completed a senior school project focused entirely on the history of country music.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s so much appreciation that I have for that stage,\u201d he said, referring to the Grand Ole Opry and its original home at the Ryman Auditorium. \u201cAll the legends that came through there\u2014it\u2019s crazy that I\u2019m hopefully going to get to be in there this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/entertainmentnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/EntNow-TEMPLATES-Featured-Images-13.jpg\" alt=\"American Idol' Finalist Lucas Leon Performs at His High School Graduation\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Leon said that in a perfect world, he\u2019d love to perform some original songs during his Opry debut and maybe even share the stage with Paisley again.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, he\u2019s continuing to release new music, including \u201cThe Crazy Kind.\u201d Leon described the track as a lighter change of pace compared to some of the deeper emotional songs he usually writes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I went into the writing room that day, I said, \u2018Lighten up a little bit.
