Adam Levine knows fatherhood has changed him for the better.<\/p>\n
Speaking to PEOPLE ahead of his highly anticipated return to The Voice, Levine, 45, opens up about being a father of three and how it has \u201csoftened\u201d him. When asked if being a dad has changed his approach to coaching his team on the hit NBC series, Levine is quick to say no.<\/p>\n
But, the Maroon 5 frontman notes, \u201cI\u2019ve softened a lot as a person in a lot of other ways.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve always kind of tried to be nice. It\u2019s never productive, and it drives me crazy sometimes on other shows when I see people the way they act. I\u2019m not above any other person,\u201d he explains. \u201cI give people my experiential knowledge. It\u2019s scientifically proven that it\u2019s counterproductive to be mean. There\u2019s just no f\u2014ing reason to act that way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I\u2019ve always tried to be as nice as possible in the context of being critical, and I think that\u2019s just the most productive way to be,\u201d the musician continues. \u201cAnd yeah, I\u2019ve softened, I mean, I have three kids, I cry every day. I feel like I\u2019ve also kind of always been pretty keyed in with my emotions.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I\u2019m more tired,\u201d he jokingly adds.<\/p>\n

Levine and wife\u00a0Behati Prinsloo\u00a0share three children: daughters\u00a0Dusty Rose, 8, and\u00a0Gio Grace, 6, and a 2-year-old son. Despite his exhaustion with three little ones, Levine says he wouldn\u2019t have it any other way.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just love being near them. I love to watch every single step. And of course, you miss when they\u2019re tiny, and then they get bigger, and then you say, \u2018Oh, my God, they\u2019re so big,\u2019 and then you appreciate all the things you can do with them when they get bigger,\u201d he says. \u201cAnd they\u2019re not that big yet, because they\u2019re still really young, so there\u2019s so much more coming. But it\u2019s just this amazing, never-ending movie, just watching. And it\u2019s the best s\u2014 ever. It\u2019s the best thing in the world to me.\u201d<\/p>\n
The \u201cShe Will Be Loved\u201d singer also says having kids has changed his mindset when it comes to performing, especially when he has to go on the road for long periods of time.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s fun, [but] it\u2019s heartbreaking, I hate leaving,\u201d he says. \u201cBut it\u2019s nice because now I have a reason to go do it. It\u2019s kind of a selfish thing when you start and you\u2019re on your own. And now, and my kids know this too, I tell them this every time I have to leave for a period, I\u2019m just like, \u2018I\u2019m doing this for you guys,\u2019 which is a hundred percent true. I\u2019m out there for them.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt gives you a different focus, and it gives you a different drive, and it\u2019s pretty cool,\u201d he continues. \u201cI never could have predicted [that].\u201d<\/p>\n Acknowledging that his touring commitments aren\u2019t as demanding as they used to be and that his family attends his shows when they can, Levine says: \u201cI feel really lucky to still be doing it at such a high level, and to have all of our fans still always showing up and playing in front of these huge crowds and touring the world.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt feels like more of a privilege now than ever before,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n With his gig as\u00a0a coach on season 27 of\u00a0The Voice<\/em>, an upcoming slate of international shows and eight-show Las Vegas residency with Maroon 5 all coming down the pipeline, one might say Levine\u2019s got plenty on his plate at the moment.<\/p>\n But the father of three has one more thing on his radar: \u201cI think my only accomplishment that matters really at this point, I keep going back to this, but if I can raise happy kids that love their lives, then I am a success.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThen, I will officially be the luckiest person in the world,\u201d he adds. \u201cOf all the luckiest s\u2014 that\u2019s ever happened to me, that would be the greatest accomplishment of my life, honestly.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cSee how soft I become?\u201d he quips.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" \u201cI\u2019m out there for them.
