Blake Shelton<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Gwen Stefani<\/strong>\u00a0tied the knot in 2021, officially making Shelton a stepfather to Stefani\u2019s three sons,\u00a0Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 9, who she shares with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale. During a recent appearance on the\u00a0CMT Hot 20 Countdown<\/em>, the 47-year-old country superstar spoke with host Cody Alan about being a stepparent, admitting that \u201cit\u2019s tough\u201d to choose his favorite thing about the role.<\/p>\n

Step Parenting Is Very Important To Blake Shelton<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u201cI take enjoyment in all of it, I also stress out a lot about it,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is important to me, and I don\u2019t want to be the guy that advised them to do the wrong thing somehow.\u201d Shelton then went on to reveal why he takes step parenting \u201cserious.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI take that stuff, it\u2019s about the only thing I do take pretty serious in my life,\u201d Shelton continued. \u201cObviously, everybody out there watching that\u2019s got a kid knows what I\u2019m talking about. \u201cThere\u2019s not that one thing that I can put my finger on, there\u2019s things every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Opened Up About Stepson\u00a0<\/strong>Kingston\u2019s Musical Debut<\/h2>\n

Shelton and Alan had previously been discussing\u00a0Kingston\u2019s debut musical performance\u00a0at Shelton\u2019s Ole Red location in Tishomingo, Oklahoma in August, which the 47-year-old called \u201cprobably the most nerve-wracking music experience I\u2019ve had in 20 years, and I would say for Gwen also.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shelton explained that he and Stefani are aware of Kingston\u2019s musical ambitions, and while he has been writing \u201cincredible music,\u201d he hadn\u2019t yet performed in a live setting. The couple figured the Tishomingo bar would be a good under-the-radar spot for a first performance, but social media had other plans.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt just takes that one person there with their phone, which is totally fine, by the way, it just got a lot more attention than we thought it would,\u201d Shelton said. \u201cBut, thank God, he did a great job.\u201d<\/p>\n

Made Him Realize He\u2019s More Than Just A Country superstar<\/h2>\n

The country star told\u00a0PEOPLE<\/em>\u00a0in December 2022 that Kingston, Zuma and Apollo have helped him unlock a whole new side of himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve taught me something about myself that I never knew: I\u2019m\u00a0more than just a country singer\u00a0or a goofy guy,\u201d Shelton shared. \u201cI\u2019m someone they actually lean on, and that\u2019s not a responsibility that I ever had and not something that I ever considered even being into.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a different kind of self-worth,\u201d he added. \u201cMaybe it\u2019s the opposite of self-worth because you put yourself way down on the rung, and they move up ahead of you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stefani\u2019s Kids Changed Shelton\u2019s Life<\/strong><\/h2>\n

While he appreciates the accomplishments he\u2019s made in his career, Shelton revealed that he wanted to put the focus on his family moving forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t know what your regrets are going to be until you look back one day,\u201d he mused. \u201cI feel like my regrets would be, if I stayed on this path, that I am missing out on some more important things in life \u2014 and for now, that\u2019s our kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

Credits Stefani\u2019s Kids For Success Of Their Relationship<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Shelton and Stefani\u00a0began dating in 2015, and Shelton noted that with her\u00a0kids\u00a0involved, the success of the relationship was pretty much always a sure thing.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt got to a point quickly with Gwen and I\u2019s relationship that there was never a time where I thought, \u2018Well, I wonder if this doesn\u2019t work out.\u2019 That never crossed my mind, and I don\u2019t think it did with her either,\u201d he recalled. \u201cHaving kids, it truly does make you go, \u2018Oh whoa. Wait a minute.\u2019 This isn\u2019t about me anymore and never will be again.\u2019 If you don\u2019t say that to yourself, I think you\u2019re only hurting yourself because you\u2019re going to miss out.\u201d<\/p>\n
