American Idol continued its tradition of head-scratching and shocking eliminations on April 27 when Brooks Rosser and Daniel Stallworth left the competition after failing to be voted through to the Top 5.<\/p>\n

After Brooks sang \u201cLove Story\u201d on Taylor Swift Night, judge Carrie Underwood rhetorically asked the singer if he knew how many folks loved him. \u201cI ask everybody I know, \u2018Who\u2019s your favorite?\u2019 and people just love you,\u201d Underwood shared. \u201cI don\u2019t know if you know that.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

That said, Underwood encouraged Brooks to breathe and told him he was \u201chalf a second faster than the music the entire song. Just breathe, sink into it. It will come with time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daniel had the judges up on their feet with his performance of Swift\u2019s \u201cFearless.\u201d Lionel Richie praised, \u201cYou not only sing, but you perform,\u201d and guest judge, comedienne\/roast-master extraordinaire Nikki Glaser, added, \u201cI just have the best time watching you. I forgot I was on TV. I was part of the crowd. I want to go to 22 of your shows. I\u2019m serious. That was so fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

Afterward, Underwood told TV Insider and a small group of other reporters that Brooks and Daniel\u2019s eliminations were a \u201cshocker\u201d for her. \u201cAt this point in the competition, everybody is a bad choice to go home, you know what I mean?\u201d she explained. \u201cEverybody is so good. Everybody is so talented. So, anybody getting voted off, no matter who it is at this point, it\u2019s sad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richie said that he was able to speak to Brooks after his elimination. \u201cI\u2019ll tell you exactly what I said to him,\u201d the \u201cTruly\u201d crooner shared. \u201cOut of all the singers [this season], he has the most identifiable voice. He needs to find a song that showcases his storytelling ability.\u201d<\/p>\n

Host Ryan Seacrest observed that Brooks grew more at ease in front of the camera and in the live post-performance interviews throughout the season. \u201cHe has gotten more and more comfortable, believe it or not,\u201d Seacrest confirmed.<\/p>\n

Richie pointed out that successful singers differ in their stage presence and levels of comfortability. For example, he said, \u201cIt\u2019s like saying to Bob Dylan, \u2018Loosen up!\u2019 Everybody is not going to be Mr. Showbiz [or] Liza Minelli. One is spicy, one is not. What you want to do now is just let him be who he is.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cI told [Brooks], \u2018Don\u2019t get freaked out.\u2019 He got this far. [From] 200 people to the [Top 7]! Brooks has been through an emotional roller coaster. He\u2019s in that shock stage, but he\u2019s going to be alright. He\u2019s got that voice and we know who he is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Bryan was \u201csurprised\u201d that Daniel was sent home. \u201cI really loved what he did the whole year, but it\u2019s tough when you get to the Top 5,\u201d he admitted. \u201cI think the show [tonight], overall, was one of the better ones of the year, seeing how the kids showed up. They\u2019re in the hunt to win this thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chris Tungseth, the last to be announced as part of the Top 5, also revealed what he was feeling while waiting for his name to be called alongside Brooks and Daniel. \u201cThe three of us were up there, and we all looked at other, and we\u2019re just like, \u2018I love you. We\u2019re brothers,\u2019\u201d Tungseth recalled. \u201cThe really hard part about the show is that you fall in love with your friends, and then, it\u2019s, \u2018Alright. See you.\u2019 We\u2019ll be in touch. We\u2019ll always be in contact. We\u2019ll always hang out.\u201d<\/p>\n
