Kelly Clarkson, the 2002\u00a0Idol<\/em>\u00a0champ, took the stage to perform her heart-wrenching single, \u201cPiece By Piece.\u201d The autobiographical tune was written by Clarkson after the birth of her first child, River Rose, and draws comparisons between Clarkson\u2019s father who left her as a child, and her then-husband, Brandon Blackstock.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had [my daughter] River, and even from holding her the first day, I was like, how could anyone walk away from that? Then I started thinking that my husband [Brandon Blackstock] is such a great father,\u201d Clarkson told\u00a0Glamour\u00a0about the inspiration behind her song. \u201cHe changes diapers, he stays up, and if I\u2019ve had a late night, he\u2019ll wake up with her in the morning. We\u2019re definite partners, and I felt so lucky.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Clarkson added that a conversation with her sister led to a realization that she was fortunate to find a husband that was unlike the father she was estranged from.<\/p>\n

Kelly Clarkson made Keith Urban cry during the performance.<\/h2>\n

Clarkson, who was pregnant with her son, broke down while singing \u201cPiece By Piece\u201d for the\u00a0Idol<\/em>\u00a0crowd. But, it was\u00a0Keith Urban\u2018s response to the song that had everyone talking. The\u00a0American Idol<\/em>\u00a0judge and country star was deeply moved by the song and wept during the performance.<\/p>\n

Urban lost his father in December of 2016 following a battle with cancer. While Clarkson\u2019s song may have been a reminder of his father, the reason for Urban\u2019s tears could also be because the song is simply powerful.<\/p>\n

Urban took to Twitter to praise Clarkson following her stunning performance.<\/p>\n
