\u201cThere was nothing TMZ about it; it was just Texas country,\u201d says Australian country singer\u00a0Shea Fisher Durfey, who\u2019s also a rodeo cowgirl \u2014 and a whiskey-sipping gal in the cameo-packed video. \u201cEverybody was so low-key and casual.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nothing low-key and casual about all those celeb cameos, though.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

World champs incognito<\/h4>\n

Those two cowboys Shea\u2019s sandwiched between in the video? None other than real-life world champion bull rider JB Mauney and world champion tie-down roper\u00a0Tyson Durfey, who happens to be her real-life hubby.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was laughing because some of these cowboys had never been in music videos and didn\u2019t realize the glasses of \u2018whiskey\u2019 on set definitely weren\u2019t,\u201d Shea says. \u201cJB Mauney thinks it\u2019s whiskey, and he takes a sip, and it\u2019s sweet tea. He said, \u2018Where\u2019s the real whiskey? What\u2019s this sh-t that we\u2019re drinking?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The Shiner Bock beer bottles in the video were also filled with tea, then misted with water to look like sweat. \u201cEven the cigarettes, they\u2019re not real. You can smoke them and it looks real, but it\u2019s all herbs. So JB said, \u2018I gotta go get my Marlboros out of my truck.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Luke Grimes, team roper extraordinaire?<\/h4>\n

Luke Grimes\u00a0appears in the video as a looks-like-trouble rodeoer who\u2019s carrying a torch for his smokin\u2019 hot old flame, played by\u00a0Ava Phillippe\u00a0(daughter of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe).<\/p>\n

In real life, what rodeo event would Luke compete in? \u201cI\u2019m probably going to get in trouble,\u201d Shea says with a laugh, \u201cbut if he was an athlete, he\u2019d be a team roper. He\u2019s quiet-spoken; he\u2019s the sweetest, nicest guy. Don\u2019t get me wrong \u2014 I\u2019m not saying he\u2019s not manly, but he\u2019s not a tough guy,\u201d she explains. \u201cHe\u2019s the polar opposite of how he seems in the video. Let\u2019s just say he has great acting skills.\u201d<\/p>\n

Casting call for cowboys<\/h4>\n

These days, Shea lives on a ranch near Weatherford, Texas, with her rodeo champ husband and their three kids. Most of the video was filmed in nearby Fort Worth at the\u00a0Stagecoach Ballroom, but the road scenes and flashbacks were set at Shea and Tyson\u2019s ranch.<\/p>\n

They used her neighbor\u2019s horse trailer in the video and borrowed the pickup from the owner of Weatherford Farmers Market. Those clothes on the flashback kids came from Shea, who had to redress the two child actors in her own children\u2019s clothes to make them look legit. \u201cThey were the most city kids I\u2019d ever seen,\u201d she says laughing.<\/p>\n

When it came to casting real-deal cowboys, the couple knew who to connect Ella with, including\u00a0Dale Brisby,\u00a0Shad Mayfield, and\u00a0Leighton Berry. \u201cElla and Luke were thrilled to hang out with the rodeo athletes,\u201d Shea says.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Watch your back, sugar pie \u2026<\/h4>\n

Miranda Lambert\u00a0might be the video\u2019s biggest cameo, but\u00a0Kaitlin Butts\u00a0has the best role: the old flame\u2019s bitchy best friend who accosts Ella in the ladies\u2019 room.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou got some kinda nerve bringing him around here again,\u201d says Butts, with a watch-yourself smile that\u2019s as sweet as poison. \u201cJust so you know, Texas has a way of keeping what\u2019s hers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lone Star State, can we get a witness?<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Shea Fisher Durfey\u2019s musical talent<\/h4>\n

Shea knows a thing or two about getting hip to how things happen in the Lone Star State, having moved across the planet from Australia to Nashville before landing in Texas. \u201cI had to learn, okay, this is how it\u2019s done in Texas. I feel like whether you\u2019re a country girl or not, we can all relate to having felt like that before.\u201d<\/p>\n

But rodeo is rodeo, wherever you go. And Shea\u2019s got some observations.<\/p>\n

Like: There\u2019s a big difference between bull riders and tie-down ropers. She should know. Her dad was a PBR bull rider and has seven Australian titles. She was a bull rider, too \u2014 at age 16, she became the first female ever to qualify in the sport for Australia\u2019s Junior National Finals.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been around a lot of bull riders and rough-stock guys over the years, so it\u2019s ironic that I married a calf roper,\u201d she says. \u201cI had to get used to the timed-event style of guy. Calf ropers are more \u2026 I wouldn\u2019t say put together, but they\u2019re a little more refined, more business-minded.\u201d<\/p>\n

And bull riders? \u201cThe rough-stock guys have a little bit more of a wilder edge. If you\u2019re talking about bull riders like JB, those guys are wild fun. They\u2019re just all-or-nothing personalities.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

What happens in the bed of a pickup stays in the bed of a pickup.<\/h4>\n

Rodeo and badass pickups go together like horse and saddle. As in the video for Shea\u2019s new single, \u201cTruck\u201d \u2014 a sultry, breezy ode to young love and summer nights with cheeky lyrics:\u00a0We were young, we were reckless, neither one of us could help it\u00a0<\/em>\u2026\u00a0nothing could hold us back \u2014 from the back of the truck.<\/em><\/p>\n

Ooh la la. Inspired by real experiences? \u201cWe\u2019re not going to comment on any of that,\u201d Shea says. \u201cWe\u2019re going to leave that off-radar. But I\u2019ve definitely had plenty of great memories in old trucks, including with Tyson.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for the lover boy in the video who pulls out a chilled bottle of pink Prosecco for the morning-after toast \u2014 props to you, young gent. The blankets, multiple pillows \u2026 and is that a bolster!? This boy was prepared.<\/p>\n

Shea is preparing, too, for her new EP to drop this November.<\/p>\n

This Aussie is one to watch. BIG dreams, BIG talent, and BIG things ahead. Shea Fisher Durfey definitely landed in the right place cuz BIG is the middle name of practically everything in the Lone Star State. So glad she came Out West from Down Under.<\/p>\n
