Country music stars and fellow\u00a0American Idol<\/em>\u00a0alums Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina reunited on the show\u2019s 20th-anniversary special on Monday night (May 2). The duo performed a wistful rendition of Keith Whitley\u2019s 1988 hit \u201cWhen You Say Nothing At All.\u201d<\/p>\n

McCreery\u2019s warm southern drawl and Alaina\u2019s powerhouse vocals once again wowed the judges as they crooned through the number.<\/p>\n

McCreery and Alaina first appeared on the\u00a0Idol<\/em>\u00a0stage together in 2011. Both competed on season 10 of the show, with McCreery eventually taking the title at just 17 years old. Alaina was runner-up.<\/p>\n

Now 11 years later, both artists have soared to the top of the country scene, securing a host of chart-topping hits and critical nods.<\/p>\n

Ahead of their performance, the long-time friends chatted about their time on the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was a fan of this show before I was even on this show,\u201d McCreery said. \u201cLife was pretty normal for both of us going to high school up until the show.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alaina added, \u201cI loved\u00a0American Idol<\/em>\u00a0so much that it was punishment for me to not be able to watch it. So, I\u2019m excited to be back. I\u2019m excited to represent our season.\u201d<\/p>\n

With four consecutive No. 1 singles (\u201cFive More Minutes,\u201d \u201cIn Between\u201d, \u201cThis Is It\u201d and \u201cYou Time\u201d) and more than 4 million albums sold, McCreery has become one of the most successful\u00a0Idol<\/em>\u00a0winners. Alaina is similarly lauded, with multiple nominations for CMT and ACM awards and platinum-selling records to boot.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t turn on the radio without hearing Lauren, you can\u2019t turn on the TV without seeing Lauren,\u201d McCreery joked backstage.<\/p>\n
