Doctors initially told the pair the tumor couldn\u2019t be operated on until after she gave birth, leaving them to navigate the pregnancy while waiting for surgery.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_15-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">When asked how Seaborn is doing now, Sheeran, 35, said she has since recovered following surgery after Jupiter\u2019s birth.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_17-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\u201cShe\u2019s fine, she had the operation,\u201d he said. \u201cShe was pregnant at the time. That\u2019s why it was difficult. She had the operation to remove the tumor after the birth of our second child. He was also preparing to defend himself in a high-profile copyright infringement lawsuit over his 2017 hit \u201cShape of You,\u201d which he ultimately won.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_24-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\u201cThat was probably the worst week because Jamal died that week as well, and then we went straight into a court case. Oh, and then Shane died, first day of the court case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_26-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">Looking back, Sheeran said the perspective-shifting moment changed how he viewed the lawsuit that had loomed over him for years.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_28-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\u201cBeing in the court case though \u2014 which, like, everything was building to that for like, eight years,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd then suddenly when you\u2019re in the courtroom, it didn\u2019t really matter. In the film, Seaborn explained why she ultimately agreed to appear on camera despite typically avoiding the spotlight.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_33-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\u201cI got diagnosed with cancer at the start of the year which was a massive s\u2013ter,\u201d she said. \u201cIt made me massively reflect on our mortality. I would never agree to do anything like this but it made me think, \u2018Oh if I died, what\u2019s people\u2019s perception of me? What do you leave behind?\u2019 \u201c<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_37-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">Sheeran became emotional in the documentary while reflecting on the experience. \u201cIt was horrible,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_39-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">Songwriting became a way for Sheeran to process the fear and uncertainty surrounding her diagnosis. He wrote seven songs in four hours after learning the news.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_41-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\u201cWhen something really intense happens to him, he writes a song,\u201d Seaborn said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_45-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">In a 2023 cover story with\u00a0<em>Rolling Stone<\/em>, Sheeran also opened up about\u00a0the mental health struggles he experienced during that time. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing you can do about it. You feel so powerless,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_47-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">Amid the stress and grief he was experiencing, Sheeran said he began feeling like he \u201cdidn\u2019t want to live anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_49-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\u201cAnd I have had that throughout my life.\u2026 You\u2019re under the waves drowning. You\u2019re just sort of in this thing.
