The Grammy-winner, who is making his\u00a0coaching debut\u00a0tonight on the singing competition show, has revealed that season 26 was not his first time being asked to join the NBC series. In fact, he told\u00a0Today<\/em>\u00a0that he had \u201c15-16 years of saying no\u201d under his belt when he finally accepted.<\/p>\n

The reason behind his hesitation? Bubl\u00e9 didn\u2019t like the idea of \u201cjudging\u201d other vocalists.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy favorite part about it is, thank god we\u2019re not judges,\u201d Bubl\u00e9 told host Craig Melvin. \u201cThe other shows have judges. We are coaches. And the reason I say that is because most of the singers are better than me, and I have no place ever judging anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cTo get to coach them and live the fantasy of having this career that I\u2019ve had and then get to have the fulfillment of helping someone else get that? That\u2019s the cool part.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bubl\u00e9 previously appeared on\u00a0The Voice<\/em>\u00a0back in its third season, stepping in as an advisor for Team Blake when\u00a0nine-time champ\u00a0Blake Shelton\u00a0needed some help coaching his team. But this time around, Bubl\u00e9 will have to take hold of the reins alongside fellow newbie\u00a0Snoop Dogg\u00a0and veteran coaches\u00a0Reba McEntire\u00a0and\u00a0Gwen Stefani.<\/p>\n

While Bubl\u00e9 has beginner\u2019s luck and, of course, his own unique perspective on his side, he isn\u2019t ready to count out his competition just yet.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy team is really good, but everybody has good stuff happening on their team,\u201d he admitted, before revealing a few flattering nicknames for his fellow coaches. \u201cWe call her Reba \u2018Magnet-ire,\u2019 because when the chair turns around, it\u2019s like, the people just love her and that smile. And Gwen is \u2018Never Ste-phony,\u2019 because she has a stream of consciousness. She\u2019s highly intelligent and just tells it like it is. And Snoop, my uncle Snoop, man. Everybody loves him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bubl\u00e9 is facing stiff competition from his fellow judges, especially reigning champion McEntire who is still riding high after\u00a0scoring her first win as a coach last season. The competitive nature of the show is a huge part of its appeal, but while speaking with\u00a0Entertainment Weekly<\/em>\u00a0for\u00a0Fall TV Previews, Bubl\u00e9 made a point of stating that he and his fellow coaches take their impact on the vocalists very seriously.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know that this is a TV show, and I know that there\u2019s a game involved and that each of us are playing a part, but I can tell you this, it\u2019s not a game for any of us.\u201d he said. \u201cWe know that each of these people, this is their life, their destiny, their dream. And we know that we\u2019re a big part of this journey.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cWe are not judges. Who are we to judge? We are coaches and we hope that we can bring our experience and the love we have for music and the passion into making them better artists and helping them in this journey.\u201d<\/p>\n
